Well, the source of my engine burning through coolant is a cracked head and not the turbo as initially thought. The dealer quoted me on the high side of $4,700 to replace the head, timing chain, and leaky water pump. Lovely for a car that has 87k miles and has always been maintained. I have come across many long blocks for $600-1200 ranging from 8-50k miles. I'd love to pick up one of those 8k long blocks but they're from "automatic" cars.
Is there any difference to the engines from automatic cars compared to the 6-speed manuals? I have seen in the past that some engines have a different crank bearing setup on manual cars to accommodate the radial force from a clutch.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
