Ok I've got to get some concrete ideas on this one. My 03 focus will start out in 1st gear and rev up til I get it to about 30mph then I have to ease back on it to about 15 then I can feel it shift into what i gues is 2nd gear. Once that happens I gett it up to about 35 or 40 and it slips out of that gear and feels as if it goes back to 1st. Once that happens I have to baby it with the engine reved up to usually around 25 or 30 and with alittle luck it eventually feels like it slams into 3rd gear. From there I can drive it pretty much unaffected on most secondary roads without holding up traffic. On the insterstate I can drive it but the engine feels like it is reved up to much. Also I hve no passing gear. I've been told that it is a solonoid problem but than another mechanic said he saw shavings in the transmission pan. Can i just change a solonoid and see how that affects it or is it a clear cut case of rebuilding the transmission?
