Recently ive been looking at my gas mileage, and its really poor. Ive dont the basic things to keep it up, i recently changed air filters, made sure the tires have correct preasure, brand new sparkplugs, and kept the different liquids and oils where they should be. After a long trip (160miles at a steady 65mph) i did the math and discovered i was only getting 22mpg [!][scratch]...............

what is causing this awful mileage and how can i fix it? im a college student and i bought this car to get better mileage, but that doesnt seem to be the case.

Fuel filter, plug wires, wheel bearings, timing, excess weight, clean MAF, check for exhaust leaks, could even be more but that's a good start.

I picked up a few miles an hour using synthetic oil. Or my car just magically got better fuel mileage at the same time. I was frustrated getting 23 around the city, and maybe 27-28 on the highway, but I am up to 25-26 city and 32 highway. I can live with that.
