I've searched YouTube and Google and all the guides to change the spark plugs are on 2005 focus and on. They are all seem very easy, yet my focus (see sig) seems different. There is a bar thing blocking access to where I just pop out the wire before proceeding to getting the actual plug out. Got a pic here, am I doing this wrong or do I have to really take that whole thing off?

I pulled out something, but I don't think I'm supposed to mess with it...

You're showing an unplugged fuel injector, and that "bar" is the fuel rail that feeds them & holds them in place....

Spark plugs are in the top center of the engine, large singe wires lead to the connectors you pull up for access (DON'T pull on the wires or they'll need replacement).

Lol yea I'm stupid, of course its night time now, but are these the spark plugs I'm supposed to pull out? This is in front of the engine.

Yes, those are the plug wires.

I had been guessing a zetec engine, the small shot looked like it might be one & I didn't read your sig. to see 'SPI". Paged down far enough to see the picture & missed the rest.

Make sure you use anti-seize lubricant and dont over tighten plugs

The SPI engine is a bane to most, but while it lives, it exceeds the Zetec and Duratec in fuel efficiency.

It's not a Duratec, with coils to unplug & unbolt - hidden better there if you aren't familiar.

Gotta start somewhere, there's more to a plug change or wheel change than would be guessed by most descriptions.

Ok so I just got to changing them. I did the first one then made sure it worked, which it did. However after changing all 4 and the cords it won't start!! ? do the cords have to be in a certain order? I made sure everything is tight and plugged I all the way.

Oh yeah, they certainly do have to be in order to work.

If you swapped the outer pairs (the only change that looks like it would be possible due to length from your pic.) it wouldn't run.

On this engine having ALL in order isn't essential, but the outer pair & the inner pair can't be swapped. 1&4 fire together and 2&3 do as well. Many engines need all in exact order to run, and it's a rule of thumb to work on one at a time or have another method to ensure they go back in the same position.


On second look it seems you may have swapped out all the wires without matching them at both ends. I don't have an SPI for reference so you'll need more help determining which go where on the coil. If the coil happens to be numbered the count on the engine starts at #1 at the end of the engine away from the transmission.

The 2.0 DOHC is the one with two cams & the plugs in the center between them.
