  1. Zetec 2.0 Spark Plug Popping Out

    General Technical Chat
You won't. Not because there isn't a followup - but because the OP isn't going to show up here and admit what I already posted on this thread - that the JB weld stories mostly never work. There is only one factory authorized type of repair on these and that is to use an insert. Timesert is...
  2. Crazing/spider web cracks on headlights

    General Technical Chat
Nothing stops you from hitting the Chinese knockoffs with UV resistant Krylon clearcoat before installing them.
  3. A/C tubing welding: possible?

    General Technical Chat
If it is leaking at that joint you likely do NOT need to replace the line. There are several o-rings on that line you don't see them because they are inside the joint. Once you depressurize the system and use the tool to release the spring and then separate the pipe you will see the o-rings...
  4. AC recharging

    General Technical Chat
There are only 2 "right" ways to add refrigerant. The first is to vacuum it to nothing, let it boil out then refill it with the manufacturer recommended amount. The second way is, if you know for sure it's low, you add refrigerant until the temperature of the accumulator is below the dew...
  5. AC blower slowing then stopping entirely.

    General Technical Chat
Now hang on there the more air the blower moves the more power it's going to take. If you want to move a lot of air that is easy as pie you just turn the blower faster, put a higher rpm motor in there. However the physics of it is that the higher the air velocity the amount of power needed...
  6. who has ever replaced the ac accumulator and manifold line?

    General Technical Chat
I just wanted to update this thread, I just replaced the hose in my 2001 Zetec wagon as the old hose was rubbing/damaged against the lower radiator bracket. I used the following parts from Amazon: UAC HA 10414C A/C Manifold Hose Assembly $27 UAC RD 10040C A/C Accumulator $26 I did not know...
  7. The replacement of those battery cables... and other issues.

    MK1 Focus
amc I learned a long time ago "never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity" The average weight of a driver in the US today is probably close to twice what it was 50 years ago. Ford shaves 100 pounds out of the engine bay with "weight holes" and plastic and all...
  8. No Start following Timing Belt Replacement

    General Technical Chat
this is why I never loosen the cams when timing these. You don't need to if you are careful and slow when you put the timing belt on.
  9. Running Great, But engine light and code??

    General Technical Chat
The catcon monitoring on those cars stinks there's plenty of those cars on the road with failed catcons that don't throw a code. I've got one of those in the driveway I can run it good and hot and put a scantool on it and see that the cat isn't holding oxygen anymore and the downstream readings...
  10. Can this tire be patched?

    General Technical Chat
I have seen tires plugged in the sidewall go on to have a full service life also. I also think this "can't repair a sidewall puncture" is a lot of baloney as well. 30 years ago it was very common for the corner service stations to plug sidewall punctures and nobody complained. Tire makers and...
  11. The replacement of those battery cables... and other issues.

    MK1 Focus
Now now, they are not THAT bad. I mean, aside from: SOHC motor that likes to drop valve seats DOHC motor with plastic water outlet that likes to leak or crack and blow coolant all over 3 motor mounts not 4 with the passenger mount the "special" hydraulic one that leaks and makes the car feel...
  12. 2002 focus zx5 2.0 doc

    General Technical Chat
Billy, that is the classic textbook symptoms of a bad coil. Do not bother with a wrecking yard coil just get a new Motorcraft off Amazon for about $30. This will not throw a code. This is a known weakness in these cars.
  13. Where to get decent floor mats?

    MK1 Interior Mods & Upgrades
Go to a pick and pull wrecker you can probably find the OEM ford ones or other heavy duty vinyl ones very cheap.
  14. WARNING - error in AC hose routing early Focuses.

    MK1 Focus
Just a warning on this - my AC died in my 2001 Focus SE and on inspection I found that the refrigerant line from the accumulator to the compressor was chafed and worn on the bottom radiator support and had leaked there. The line does NOT run against this support but as the engine moves in the...
  15. Faulty o2 sensors

    General Technical Chat
That would indicate a bad cat but use an infrared thermometer to verify, run it at 21 rpm on a hot engine for a few minutes and if the output exhaust of the cat is not hotter than the input the cat is fried. I assume sensor 2 is the downstream o2.
  16. Faulty o2 sensors

    General Technical Chat
There's no way the fastest scanners can track true real time because the car computer cannot process the o2 data and output to the scanner at the same time fast enough. And cheap scanners use slower CPUs in them - far far slower than the CPU in a typical smartphone. If you really care then use...
  17. Drivers side window problem

    General Technical Chat
The master switch was the first thing I tried replacing since I didn't know about the relay yet, but it made no difference. I have opened enough Focuses in the local u-pull-it to see that many/most don't even have the relay. I remember reading that it was only an option for a couple years...
  18. 2003 Ford Focus LX 2.3 Duratec Automatic Blown Tranny HELP

    General Technical Chat
I have found any trans work is helped greatly by putting a cherry picker on the engine and loosening or removing all engine mounts. If you can get the engine independent of the cradle except for hose and wiring it makes it easy to move around to be able to get the trans properly mated. Also...
  19. wheel stud replacement

    General Technical Chat
Also, once you get the flats PROPERLY ground on the nut make sure to use a 6 point socket! The shop that rounded it off probably was using a 12 point socket or the wrong size socket. Is the wheel still attached to the drum?
  20. Drivers side window problem

    General Technical Chat
I thought I would post on this as I had the same issue I fixed today. Yes this issue is still a problem with these relays. On mine, the drivers window started acting intermittent, it would go up and not go down sometimes. Sometimes multiple presses of the switch would get it to go down. I...
