A\C Issues

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 2003 Ford Focus SE with the Zetec 2.0 engine. My very first car besides a [Ford] Taurus passed to me from my pops! Has 126k on the engine, runs smooth, shifts fine, starts great!

Anyways, I've been pretty hype about the car besides a tie rod I had to get replaced yesterday and having NO break pads on the back of the car which caused my rear passenger tire to lock up (which is fixed now!). After a 175 mile round trip yesterday I noticed two things.

One: The car shudders after turning on the AC which I've seemed to narrow down to needing some refrigerant because the compressor isn't getting enough.

And two: the vents always blow air even if the fans are turned off. Wondering if I can fix this myself cause I can't seem to find anything about it. I could just close the vents but doesn't fix the actual issue. I'm a new "car guy" who would one day like to actually be a gearhead, but for now I'm learning and any help is appreciated! Thanks a lot for the time and have a great rest of the week folks! =)

[Also upon posting this it seems I've posted in the wrong section and not sure how to move it. Oops!]

So, the shuddering actually ended up being lack of refrigerant which did take care of that problem, but still did not fix how cold my A/C blows. Will try and take it in for a recharge and see what happens.

Then you likely ended up with LESS refrigerant in car than before. Common with those who do not know what they are doing. The shuddering comes from the pass side engine mount, they always shudder when the a/c is well charged and then you switch it on. The a/c load lowers the rpm enough to get into the harmonic zone where the engine shakes, it shows on older engines that do not boost rpm up enough by IAC because the engine is older with less ring seal. The pass side mount is supposed to take up the slack there but they are dead with more mileage too and you have to change them to stop the shuddering.

Passenger side mount causes lots of odd issues with shuttering, vibration, etc. Replace with OEM, Motorcraft. If you buy cheap, you'll be reliving it all over again within a short amount of time.

Might want to clean and/or replace your Idle Air Control Valve. I'd say replace, because where it's at, on the bottom back side of intake manifold, is not easy to get to, so if you replace it its less likely you'll have to go back under there again. I've cleaned it before and ten thousand miles later it's ducking up again. That's why I'd say just replace it.

I will probably just take it to a shop and have them do both. Thanks everyone!
