I read alot about all these mods and Hp gains but what kind of MPG can i see after certain mods, im sure once you push your engine to 25-30 hp above stock you will def see a decrease in MPG or am i just being dumb and wrong (certainly once you throw FI into the car you will clearly see less MPG)...anyone got #'s? At $2.25 a gallon (REGULAR) for gas its kinda stupid to go do some mods that'll kill your MPG till gas prices drop.
No mods will really kill mpg. They usually don't do anything, some mods actually increase a little bit. Not enough to be noticable, but an increase none the less.
Most mods will not decrease your mileage, some actually increase it. Like if you just put an intake and exhaust on, then because your care will breath better it should slightly increase your mileage. The problem is when you put those mods on, most people tend to drive more aggressively at higher Rpm's which will decrease your mileage. When I had my cougar with the trip computer I tested my mileage with the intake I put on and it was slightly better than normal. The problem was it sounded so cool when I reved it with the intake on that I was always running hard so it would sound cool, which decrease my mileage...
Yes, as Itdeckard stated it's how you drive with all that new found HP that will usually have a negative impact on your MPG. Those times when I drive more modestly I actually believe that I get better gas mileage with my mods than before with no mods.
Check out my mods, I'm getting anywhere from 28 to 30 mpg depending on how aggressive I drive, most of my driving is around town. Before the mods I got 30 - 32 mpg. We got 33 on Kathy's basically stock Focus when we had it.
Ummm, ok I really need some help then, because im getting 17 mpg. I wish I was getting 24. I due have 17's and a 4000watt system but i due have a 10 farad cap. I was told I needed to change my battery to an optima, clean my air filter (which I did) clean my injectors, and perhaps get a new fuel pump. Is all this necassary?
I hate to be that guy that brings back zombie threads. But the opening post, people complainin about $2.25 being high price for gas. If it were still $2.25 i wouldnt care if my mpgs were 25......
Anyways, that made me laugh a little on the inside when i read that.
2.25 a gallon? I'm paying 4.05 a gallon. 93 octane, which I get in NJ. Which is actually cheaper then 91 octane here in PA. 2.25 a gallon...wish I was paying that. But I get around 30 MPG going back and fourth to school everyday. About 140 Miles.
lol thats funny that the first post all that time ago gas was that cheap. Wish it was now. The only mods that killed my mpg was adding 17s over 16s. Oh and the roofrack and fairing. Oddly enough, I removed the fairing and my mpg went back up (only if I wasnt hauling anything on the roof.)
