Vredestein Quatrac 5 snow tire alternative.

So I have a 2010 Ford Focus I use as my daily driver, right now the vehicle has 17in wheels on it and the tires that I have with those wheels are just not going to work with the snow. I have a set of 15 inch wheels that came with the car. I thought about putting snow tires on them but I decided have no desire to replace the tires on the 17 inch wheels when they are worn out the wheels are giving me some issues out of round. So I realized the tires I put on these 15 inch wheels need to be something I can run on the car all year long. I then learned about all weather tires, not all season tires that can deal with the warm but also deal with the snow very well. I ended up going with Vredestein Quatrac 5 they are made in Holland the reviews I've read have been fantastic. I can also use these wheels and tires on the Fiesta ST if necessary.

Did the Dutch invent a new category of tire?

Interesting that its an all season tire but they still can badge it with the logo. Curious to see how it performs. Part of the reason I went with a Performance Winter tire; we see plenty of weather from below zero through the 50's in a typical winter. I wanted something that performs better than an all season in the cold/snow but then wont feel super squishy when its above freezing.

to qualify for the 3PMS logo, it only needs to be 10% better than the all season reference tire on medium compacted snow.
should be too hard to add some extra siping or tread voids to meet that criteria. It doesnt necessarily mean any improvement on ice or wet, or cold.

It basically is a new category of tire but there are a handful of manufacturers that make them. Toyo Celsius, Michelin crossclimate, and so on. Consumer reports did a test on a handful of them and they performed really well. They typically are going to have a shorter life span, they're not going to be bargain cheap, and they're not going to have the fuel economy of a super low rolling resistance tire. It's one of the best reviewed tires on Tire rack when it comes to reviews and there's quite a bit of them. We had our biggest snowfall in history for December, I didn't have the tires yet they took a while to get but I'm definitely going to report back after my first snow drive.

Any updates on how these are performing in snow and ice? I might be looking into buying some for my ST as I am having troubles locating a winter tire that won't break the bank and these seem like they could fit the bill.

There are some cheap winter tire alternatives but reading reviews on the cheaper winter tires, I don't think they would make me happy.

We actually haven't had any snow since I've had the tires installed.

Well that is good! Wasn't sure if you got lucky after the storm this weekend or not.

I will look forward to hearing your review on these once you do. TireRack has nothing but praise in the reviews so if I convince my wife to let me spend the money, I may be buying a set. After the storm in Dec., I definitely need something different. I have Michelin A/S 3+ and they were fine last winter but after 20K miles they are useless in the snow.

They took a hot minute to get here. So I didn't get to use them in the snow storm in December.

Are the A/S 3+ tires good during the summer months tho? Like quiet comfortable ride and good on mpgs?
