I have had my 01 SE Sedan for 3 years now 209,xxx on the original clutch. Other than the typical thermostat housing issue a lot of us have, I have had to replace the power steering pump, Plastic heater core tube that runs along top of the radiator, And i'm on my 3rd valve cover gasket ( poor design ). Other than that just age thing's alternator, brakes, tire's, Window switch. I need to replace both window regulators in the rear door so my back windows will work, but the car is a champ. When the engine goes out I will simply put another one in it. I have one ready.

My 2000 Zetec sedan has just reached 176,000 miles. Nothing major to report but I am now at the point where I will be probably be swapping out parts. (Just had the struts replaced and wheels aligned this week for $285.) The evaporator threw a code (leaking) and I have the original water pump, serpentine belt, and all of the sensors. This has been the most reliable car I have ever driven.

Well few problems but that's down to her age (+mileage) at this stage. Some of them are:
clutch master cylinder (leaked into drivers footwell)
Radiator leak (not major)
Steering pump damaged (humpback bridge - bit costly)
ECU and ignition coils died - needed replacing (these and the steering pump all within 3 weeks of the other - last May/June- considered then getting rid of car)
this month - alternator died, replaced with reconditioned unit via Ford, and new battery (battery in car was her original - still holds charge - not bad for 11 yrs!)
now got an engine management light on
hmmm is adding up. :) still love her though

I have about 11.5K mi on the ST no major issues yet. The only thing that it needed to go in for was new engine mounts because the original mounts couldn't handle the torque. This was a known problem and didn't cost me anything.

Wow, this poll/thread is originally from 2007. I think a new poll/thread should be started, especially since the Focus was completely redesigned.

Anyway I voted for "A number of irritating deficiencies and I would seriously reconsider..."

I have already stopped one girl at work from buying a Focus based on my experience with the new DCT transmission.

I am really surprised that after years of selling this transmission my brand new 2014 Focus still had to have TSB 14-0047 installed after only a few months on the road.

After reading numerous posts that claim "You're driving it wrong or just not used to it yet" I have to say that I am a 53 year old man who certainly knows what a standard shift transmission feels like. It should not "shudder" in stop-and-go commuter traffic or driving at low speeds in a parking lot.

For goodness sake this is a Ford, not a Ferrari. I should think the car could be driven by an average person without having to make allowances for the transmission's idiosyncrasies.

I've dragged raced for 40 years and I never heard a manual tranny shudder. That sounds like clutch material missing on the disc or a bad hydro clutch delivery. Perhaps a bearing in the tranny?

You've never heard or experienced clutch chatter?

The one annoyance I am having. The heater selector cable keeps breaking.
This is my third cable, the problem hopefully is finally fixed.

I can't participate with the poll due to my current frustration level.
2003 Focus ZTW
Bought it brand new.
Factory alternator went out in 2010.
Replaced it in 2010 (+battery) and THAT alternator went out in 2011
Replaced THAT alternator (+battery) in July 9, 2013.
Just replaced THAT alternator last night.

WhyTF does this thing keep eating alternators??
