Hello from England

Hi everyone!

Just joined the forum from halfway round the world. I don't actually own a Focus, but a '91 Escort RS2000 rally car.

I'm planning to change the old-school, under-powered, heavy engine for a 2.0 Duratec and am looking for some advice surrounding MTX75 transmissions (my car currently uses an MTX75 from a MK1 Focus (diesel, boo), so am trying to figure out what's what. I've posted in the relevant section.

While it isn't a Focus, like I say, it has a Focus gearbox, and the wheels are from a Focus SVT (or ST170 as we called it), so that counts, right?

Thanks guys.

Yeah the MTX75 is a good box. The Escort RS2000 actually used a very early form of it, with a rod linkage, but that was not so good! That's part of why I switched for the Focus unit, as the cable shift is much better, and I also use an MFactory 3rd, 4th and 5th gear kit to shorten the gears for rallying.

Sadly, the old engine (I'm not sure it was ever used in the USA to be honest) is a bit of a liability. It was good in its day, but parts are getting hard to find and it's really heavy. The Duratec would save me a big chunk of weight, parts are easy to get and it is easier to get power from, so it makes a lot of sense. I'm hoping I can utilise my existing transmission mounts and the I just need to make a single engine mount.
