water damage and electrical issues (long post)

So looking for advice here since I'm not a car guy and my car is in bad shape. It's a Ford Focus 2013 titanium model. I've had it since Dec 2012 and besides the multiple transmission replacement, it hasn't been too bad.

So last Wednesday we had some nasty storm go through here. I had to pick up my daughter from her school since she stayed late. Weather was drizzling when she got into the car, but turned nasty about two minutes later. Imagine driving with wipers on high slow because you can still barely see. Add to that BB size hail pelting the car from all over the place. There was several roads that the water was a bit high, but never felt like it got high enough below the car. About half way through the normal 15 minute drive my daughter started to notice water coming in from the sunglass holder area. I had a towel in the back seat so she just held it there. We got home and rushed in, I left the tower over the gear selector in case more water came in. It rained a lot more that night.

Next morning the passenger seat is wet, middle area is wet. I towel it off and drive to work. I notice that when I make turns, water leaks from the sunglass area again. I towel as much as I can while driving. Car is fine otherwise at this point. During the work day another major storm went through while I was at work.

I left work later then normal, got in my car and started to head home. So far all things are working. I was getting on the turnpike and started experiencing issues. It was raining again and traffic was slow. The AC unit kept going from my setting to 75, AC on, and defrost. I would put it back to my preferred setting, and a couple minutes later...it goes back to 75,AC on, and defrost. I was focusing on driving and then the gauge cluster went dead. Since it was slow moving traffic, I put the car in neutral and turned it off and on, gauge panel came back for about 4 minutes and went dead again. Doing same trick didn't help. At this point AC unit just went off. It would occasionally come back on for like 10 seconds then go dead again. Gauge panel would occasionally come back to life, but then go dead again. I checked other systems and at the time, only my read left window could open. Sunroof still worked, but it was raining so that didn't help. Since my AC wasn't working, I wanted to open my window...but no luck there. I tested the door lock, and it failed as well. Radio and sync was still working...so called ford. They said to pull to side and stop and start her. I didn't want to do that on the turnpike in case it wouldn't start so I drove it carefully to a gas station near my house (it needed gas...was at about 40 miles left when this started). Dealer wanted me to bring it in.

So I filled up at the gas station. The car was off at this point. I try to start her afterwards, and nothing. I checked the battery and it was still good. I was able to get blinkers working and couple other electrical things. I was finally able to start her by putting FOB next to steering console. I drove it to Ford dealer. When I got there I explained all the issues, explained about that leak as well. They tried to start her, but didn't work. Not even the fob trick worked. I got a ride home.

Next day they text me saying "There was 23 fault codes detected in the computer system. Loss of communication from multiple module linked to the bcm (body control module). We believe they are related to the water leak. There is a water leak specialist that comes to our dealership on tuesdays ". This was Friday. So I called my State Farm rep, and started a claim since this seemed like it would a lot more then my 500 deductable. They got me a rental car (Ford Fusion hybrid...kinda digging it).

Today is Tuesday. I get a call saying leak specialist found leak in sunroof area (shocker). Would cost 175 to fix. I did research it at this point and figured my drain tubes were just clogged. So they say they'll fix it and report back after its done. A couple hours later, get a text "Water leak tech just completed the cleaning of the moon roof drain tubes. Retested - no additional leaks found. My svc tech will re-evaluate the electrical issues tomorrow morning " (129 dollar test btw). I asked if any of the gauges or system came back when they were moving the car, the response was "The vehicle moves. Not sure how well though".

So anyone else have a similar experience? Is this something that can actually be fixed after water damage like this? I was already planning on getting a new car next year, so I just need it to last another year. Thoughts? Advice? Words of Wisdom?
