On a recent visit to the Ford Owner site, I noticed a new FSA showing for both of our DCT-equipped 2012 Foci:
15B22 TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING FOR OVERT TCM FAILURE WARNING
A search of FF turned up no hits, and we've received no letters from Ford so far, so I assume that this is a pretty recent development. Thought I might check in here and see if anyone has any further details.
It doesn't appear to be a warranty extension, as that was already covered by the 14M02 Customer Satisfaction Program, but rather a one-time TCM re-programming.
I agree with the last two responses /// they are taking care of it within warranty & extended warranty----but it's hard to imagine it making it to 256k or even 150k without eventually laying out some serious $$ on repairs....prove me wrong..............I hope!
I just checked your case; I didn't see any calls scheduled as the case had been resolved at the end of last month. If you're referring to what I wrote above, that was specifically for joefromchicago.
Ok I just had a third clutch pack done 54k miles revision F & a TCM two weeks ago/// hopefully this is it for awhile////// I am thank full I have a good dealer & mechanic//// my car must have been made on a FRIDAY!!! Anyway Ford is absolutely standing behind their product but it's been a real hassle going back & forth!! Anybody know if this hopefully final fix is the answer?? MJB
That's the same question that's been asked for the last three years. With each new version of clutches, seals, or software it has been hoped that the final solution has arrived. Unfortunately, the only way we'll know when that has happened is when repaired cars stop needing to be repaired again for some reasonable length of time or mileage.
Just got my car back. New clutch pack installed. Honestly, it feels like nothing was really done. It was shuddering on the way out of the parking lot haha. This reminds me of when Microsoft sold the white X-Box's back in 2009 and over 55% of them were defective and would die within a few months of owning them. So Microsoft extended the warranty on them and had you send the unit back and they would "fix it" and send it back. However most of them broke a short time after you received them. Sound familiar? Ford can extend the warranty all they want... it doesn't change the fact that these cars will continue to break, be a safety hazard, and a huge inconvenience for the owners. Not to mention I am making monthly payments on a car that will probably not last over 50K miles.
This has been a very costly lesson to learn. At 28 years old I thought I was "adulting" by buying a new car that would last....
Bought a 2014 SE as a CPO on Monday night. Test drive went perfectly. On the way home it started the shudder at the top end of first gear. Additionally, on my way to work yesterday morning, the front driver's tire broke a belt in it, making the ride both rough and loud. I'm not exactly thrilled that I'm already having to schedule a service appointment for a car I've had a little over 48 hours.
So far, I've called my dealer twice and had to leave a message both times. Still waiting for a call back.
Generally, my shuddering and RPM spikes/hesitation would occur at higher temperatures, but today, at a scorching 63 degrees, I experienced the same thing.
I've been browsing threads like this from the shadows for a couple of months. My shudder and jerking has been getting worse. Has become very evident in the stop and go traffic on my commute. I've got about 30K miles on my SE and today I called with a list of things I want my dealer to look at, including the transmission behavior. Appointment is set for 10/16. I thought that was bad, but I guess not compared to some of the comments here. Wish me luck. Wish us ALL luck.
1971 Ford Pinto - The 50 Worst Cars of All Time - TIME
Let's look back at the Ford Pinto. Cost to make it right vs costs of paying victims - it all comes down to how to save the most money. Unfortunately, I think we have a "Pinto-esque" type car on our hands here. My engineering classes taught me that these types of engineering fails happen frequently. What sets bad companies apart from the good ones are how they deal with them and how quickly they fix them, instead of patching them up or hoping their settlements are less than their possible expense.
Pinto is a relatively simple case by comparison, and the simple fix used (plastic shield on the front of the tank) was only a partial fix.
The original engineering proposal of a fuel cell type bladder was never used, instead of going that way most later cars moved the tank location to a more central one in front of the rear axle (plus other fixes like a one way valve for rollovers at the tank, also helps prevent spewing fuel if hit).
Later vehicles still had troubles when the tank was located at the rear, most recent recall "fix" I remember was installing an optional hitch for more protection.
Simple "obvious' fix on these trannies has had less than spectacular results (clutch pack/seals) in many cases.
I have a 2013 Focus Titanium with DPS6 transmission. Regarding recall 15B22. New TCM software update. I had the software installed on Tuesday Oct 6th, 2015. I had a feeling that this new software was a lot more than just a overt TCM failure warning issue. And I was right. The transmission issues have completely went away. The shifting almost perfect and smooth. I believe Ford has found the fix for the DPS6 transmission, but because of all the lawsuits they also include huge changes to the software without mentioning it. I would advise everyone with issues to contact Ford and get this recall 15B22 software installed. Finally a fix!
I must admit, the first two weeks, mine still shuddered after this update, but then, all of a sudden, it diminished almost entirely. It was like night and day. Of course, now that I mention the positive, I'm sure it'll start shuddering again today.
Mine also shifted like crap the first couple days, then went smooth as butter, then went back to crap for a day like 2 weeks ago, now it's been awesome. If they don't have the solid fix..they're getting close.

I didn't have any clutch/trans issues with my '14 Focus until I hit 15K miles. Brought it to the dealer on 09/04/15 to address the clutch slipping/shuddering at low speeds and they did a TCM reset or update. Initially it improved the shuddering at low speeds but instead it started slipping at exactly 20 mph. After three or four weeks the shuddering at low speeds returned. I scheduled an appointment to return it to the dealer for 10/10/15 and the dealer called this morning to tell me they're just going to order a new clutch for it. Hopefully that will fix the problem my car is having.
I after many resets I'm on my third clutch & a new TCM/// 54k It again is shifting great!! I hope & pray what Bob above says is true!! I truly know they are trying but time will tell- I'm running it on a nice trip this weekend...,,,,,,so far fingers crossed.....there a many Focus's on road & still being sold.......there has to be a fix!!!!
So just a quick post. I for the first time was able to go to a little town I frequent on weekends in my 12 focus after the 15b22 and not have a single issue. This is even including after all 4 clutch replacements. This is the first time software has done something for my car. Even if this isn't the final fix...its gotta be damn close
My Focus' shudder is still there. Rush hour traffic is a nightmare but highway traffic after rush hour is great. Maybe the TCM needs to be replaced now.
I was just told by the dealership that my Focus (the one that randomly goes in Reverse) needs the seals replaced due to leaking onto the clutches. SAME EXACT REPAIR THEY PERFORMED 5 months ago. Dealer also exclaimed how much they hated the Focus and they have not seen a Focus as troublesome as mine. Parts are on back order. It has been 3 weeks in the shop now. A total of almost 2 months in the shop this year alone. So Ford Credit still wants their monthly payment for a car that has been out of commission 1/5th of the time. No more Fords for me. Luckily, my friends have picked up on my Ford debacle and have looked foreign. www.safercar.gov. Search Ford Focus.

Its the individual car/design/repair to worry about, not "American" or "Foreign".
Trans. by Getrag, clutches by Luk, your problem items are all foreign.
Sorry to hear your Dealership hasn't managed to straighten out your problems at all, just wanted to comment that generalizations can get anyone into a similar situation.
Keep in mind any repair or update is only as good and experienced as the mechanic performing them. It sounds like I would take the Focus to different dealer and have them perform a complete diagnostic analysis and set the car to the proper specs. Have you had the newest software installed 15B22. It works.
My 2014 Focus has just about 5700 miles. I am scheduled to get the
15B22 This Friday the 16th. After reading these posts for several months, I am very worried about what I may expect as I put more miles on the car.
So far no problems. The slightest hint of shuddering when just stepping on the gas from a dead stop once in a while but mostly no problems.
Had I known what I know now I would not have traded in my 2011 Focus on this car.
Granted, as many problems as I read about on this forum, I do not know what percentage of the Focus out there that these represent. Anyone with a problem posts here but not everyone w/o problems posts.
I hope all out there with these transmission problems gets taken care properly and remunerated for all their troubles.
I spoke on the phone with an agent from the NHTSA. He advised me this issue is definitely on their radar with the sheer number of complaints received. He also told me that he had the same car as I have and experienced the excessive shuddering, kicking into reverse, loss of power, Ford spiel about this car is working as it was designed, and replaced seals. His advice: Just get rid of it as he junked his at a loss.
I am a new owner of a 2014 Focus SE which had a very noticeable shudder. I am happy to report that the application of the reprogramming made a huge difference immediately - from the moment I drove out of the parking lot it has been very smooth.
A possible side effect - I can't change the hour on the clock. Maybe unrelated.
I will update if anything changes, but so far, what a difference!
Change the date first, I think is the fix. I saw it on the forum somewhere.
