Yes, seems like a good time for another Dealer.

Should also contact Ford through Meagan (the rep who helps put people in touch through here) or the contact info. in your Owner's Manual.

Well, I got the car back, they "fixed" it by putting a new clutch motor on it..Ford engineering apparently has better sensors than the dealer ship that told them that was where the problem was. Yep.. the dealership is working with equipment that cant read the cars codes as well as engineering... wonderful. I had my doubts.. I figured they found the cheapest "solution" to shut me up.. Picked up the car, "Service Transmission" Light came on 40 miles later. They told me they had driven it "extensively without incident.. they put only 60 MILES on it in the course of driving it "over and over" for a week+... yes 60miles is extensive testing now??! I SPECIFICALLY told them you need to really drive it for 40-50 miles in one sitting. They took it out 5 or 6 times for 8-10 miles at a time. Ive never felt so ignored and blown off! What joke.. If I hadnt kept bothering them I would have paid $1600 for a repair that Ford engineering eventually deemed unnecessary, not that Ford Engineering even fixed the problem. Who do they have performing service on our vehicles , Mr Magoo? I cant even take it to a competent service station because nobody will touch this Focus' sealed transmission with a ten foot pole...or they CANT. Ive been told both.

I just decided to give it some time.. it hadnt happened since the first day back on the road. 300 miles later , NOW the "service Engine soon" light came on this morning. This is RIDICULOUS. Coming from a life long family of Ford supporters.. this is getting too much. Im paying every month for a car that is literally failing OVER and OVER again. I owe 9000 on the piece of garbage.. I cant even sell it to a dealer for more than 8k (What Ford dealer in their RIGHT MIND would even buy a 2012 Focus anyways!!) I cant, in good conscience sell it to someone else either, that would make me worse than Ford, if that can be believed! At my wits end.. Im done with Ford... they have screwed all of us that got into these Focus'/Fiestas we are literally suffering for their incompetent engineering and sub-par service engineers.

Pathetic that Ford cant come out and just fix this for all of us. I mean, they ONLY posted -/+ 8 BILLION dollars profits last year! The dudes that designed and built this thing got an $8800 bonus.... I get bent over the barrel. Thanks Ford!

I wish more owners would get as appropriately mad as you are. For 3 years I have seen people here trying more ways to justify this mess than Carter has pills. Snorkel deletes, wide-open-throttle starts, you must be driving it wrong, yadda, yadda yadda.

I hear you, there is NO justification for it. Think about it.. what a deal.. built a faulty product.. come up with a "fix".. but only let certain CODES fall into this "fix" and make the rest of the poor schmucks PAY for the problem. Which brings me to another point.. WTF is it with these codes.. have a MECHANIC tell me what the problem is.. not some fricken computer that has been programed to spit out some # based on some algorithm that can obviously be manipulated to produce the right codes to either scew the results to lean in one direction or another.

The service Tech at RUSS MILNE FORD actually told me that Ford Engineering has a "better computer".. so the dealerships diagnosis was overturned when I balked at the $1600 repair and opened a case with Ford Customer service. Yes you heard it right.. after driving my car for a week on the dealerships computer, Ford Engineering walked in and diagnosed the problem on THEIR computer differently to the tune of ZERO dollars vs $1600 dollars... let that one sink in. How many poor saps (and I mean that with empathy) have been fleeced by just knuckling under with their dealerships diagnosis. Its those people who are paying for ALL of theses other smoke and mirrors warranty "fixes". Its a damn shame.

There isnt a fix, they know it.. we who have gone thru it know it. For anyone who has stumbled into the few cars that are the exception or stumbled onto the correct combinations of band-aides.. Im happy for you. Counting the days until I can somehow relinquish myself from the nightmare that is this Ford Fungus.

Hell.. Ill put $$$ into it to be able to walk away. ANYONE that wants a 2012 Ford Focus SE with 89000 miles, Nav system, leather, Sirius, all that stuff on it let me know.. Ill walk away from it for $8500 out the door.. Ill even fill up the gas tank for you! I mean, its as easy as reprogramming the TCM, itll be like new!

Exactly, . Ford has an issue with their transmission on the Focus and Fiesta, they cant fix it but continue to sell it in their vehicles for YEARS. They know this, spin the Wheel hoping they will get a Fix in place at a later time. They release TSB's in such a way that regular folks like me have to research what is covered, what is not, what year, what month, what Symptom, what Plant blah blah blah. One TSB succeeds another.. Blah Blah Blah.

FORD--- Admit you sold faulty transmissions, that you knew you had a problem, make good on A SOLID fix and move on, Save your BRAND, save your JOB, Take Care of your Customers...

I remember ... Fords Statement - "At Ford - Quality is job 1", I wish Ford would

Ford Fiesta and Focus Transmission Lawsuit Filed After Complaints | CarComplaints.com
Class action lawsuits rarely help people. You would be better served by filing a complaint with the NHTSA if you are in the US.

Class action lawsuits take forever to resolve, by the time if any settlement is made you will be in a different car or may get back pennies on the dollar in back compensation.

I was part of a class suit dealing with a defective radiator part on the 2005-2008 Nissan xterra that would allow antifreeze to mix with transmission fluid and ruin the transmission in minutes of the leak starting. By the time the suit was settled the vast majority of people were well passed the warranty extension the settlement provided. They also never acknowledged a simple fix that would bypass the defective part that took all of 5 minutes to do. Basically you simply bypassed the tube inside the radiator that would crack and allow the fluids to mix. The design was not even necessary for normal operation. I had mine that way for several years..

I have received a substantial monetary settlement from another class action lawsuit. (not automotive) so your advice of shying away from such things is silly. If you have a serious complaint/case it ALWAYS worth it. Settlement or no, you have made yourself heard. I guess if you really just want to walk around with the attitude that "This wont work" then more power to you.

On a more positive note THANK you for the NHTSA suggestion .. I should have had that link in my other posts. Ill be making another posts to hopefully get people involved. Have a Good day!

Go ahead and join the suit, I am just saying that most are of the opinion that the only people that benefit from them are the lawyers. In the 4 or 5 I have been in, I got a warranty extension that I was already well beyond, a $2 headset for a verizon suit about a phone headset port, a 50 cent check for a PC memory suit, and a new charger for a phone that I was long rid of. Granted these are smaller suits on an individual basis(except for the $3k-4k possible cost for the Nissan suit). But the slice of the settlement pie is generally miniscule to the individual.

Good luck, I hope it pans out for you. I think of the NHTSA gets enough ammo to go after Ford you will get a much better resolution overall.

Really don't understand about "codes" and the warranty extension that took care of your situation do you?

They list those as definitive indicators this particular problem might be involved (TCM replacement) but diagnosis isn't LIMITED to showing those or you wouldn't have gotten your fix.

The MECHANIC you want to rely on had a first guess that differed, based on what he knew at the time, and that would have cost you at your current mileage.

I may not be thrilled at so MANY things being computerized in this latest car, but computer fault codes CAN be useful in diagnostics IF you don't rely ONLY on them.

Thanks for being so condescending, but you really don't understand about my situation and the warranty extension that took care of my situation do you?

1) Dealership insists I'm on the hook for $1600. Told me over and over; "We know your car is having a transmission problem, but we aren't getting the right codes to cover you under the extension"

2) I go to Customer Service make a small "stink", they concede to sent Dearborn engineer out to evaluate my car. (Luckily I am close to Dearborn I guess)

3) Dearborn engineer decides that my car DOES meet the criteria after all. (Due to just wanting to be done with me or it actually does meet some criteria, who knows)

4) Dealership says: "Umm Sorry, engineering has a better computer" <-direct quote

My whole point is that I am not some special snowflake.. there are Focus/Fiesta owners out there shelling out big money on repairs to this transmission system based on their car not "throwing the right codes" <-dealers terminology. In my situation it WAS all based on the codes, which you concede is a bad way of doing things. I cant be the only one that has faced a huge bill based on this system. Unfortunately more people will pay it rather than challenge it.

You are being willfully ignorant if you think anyone should have to pay for ANY transmission repair (within the extended warranty mileage). This is a bad component thru and thru. If you think Ford hasnt manipulated the criteria to meet the terms of a covered repair just to staunch the flow, you are again just hiding your head in the sand.

I fully appreciate the fact that they extended the warranty. I dont believe the criteria to meet said extension should be any more than minimal.

Sorry for any harshness or overly passionate approach.. just frustrated here! :)
