Faulty TCM 14M02...

Just dropped off my 2012 Focus SEL. I will give a full report of my experience after TCM issue is resolved at local dealership.

I'll be happy to check out some additional assistance, flotrain. What's your current mileage?

Any info yet on extended Tcm warrenty in Canada? (we currently only have 3 Yrs 60k km on emmission parts). My 12Ti sedan is exhibiting signs of Tcm failure (Would not start yesterday with "parking aid malfunction" message even though all parking sensors etc tested fine. I finally figued out that if I put the car into reverse then back into park it would start ok. this behavior pursisted consistently through yesterday evening but today the car is fine - no starting issues - a ghost!

Off to the dealer I go - I'll let
you folks know what happens.

Last week I went to the dealer and this program was showing in the computer for my car so it should for your car too.

Hi - Do you mean your car was having a similar issue and it showed up in the dealers' diagnostics? So what was the outcome? - how did they resolve the issue?

No. I don't have this issue nor I had it. I only meant to say that the program 14M02 is in the system for my car. When I show up at the dealer they print a sheet with all the details of my car. This was on that page along with two other program. I am Canadian also so you should see it.

Just wanted to pitch in on this. At 35k miles my vehicle was updated with the clutch and seals I believe with rev F when it first came out and I first complained to my dealer. They took care of it swiftly and they even got me a loaner car for the few days it was out.

Just recently at 44k miles, wife was stopped at a red light turning left. Light turns green and she accelerated half way through and the engine revved up freely but the clutch was not engaged so the car started slowing down. Fortunately she was able to barely pull into the driveway of a business, and passerbys helped her push the vehicle into the parking lot. I don't know if the car turned off or she turned it off. But the car wouldn't start when I checked it out.

I get the car to the dealer with Ford roadside and before the tow truck gets there I notice that the transmission was stuck in "D" on the dash gauge, but the transmission shifter itself would move up and down P-D/S normally and I can physically hear it, but the dashboard was stuck in "D." Also to note that besides the mileage and "D" indicator, nothing else was showing, not the mpg screens or anything like that, just the lower portion of that center screen. No error codes or CEL.

Dealer got it fixed with the TCM update under warranty very quickly.

Also wife noted that the car felt slower, and I asked her more in detail, and when I drove it I noticed that the transmission is shifting a bit earlier. I don't know if they updated the logic behind it as well. Seems plausible. I like it personally, she may have complained but I don't mind it.

During my drive I also noticed that the transition from braking at a red light that suddenly changes green last second downshifting is much slower, but much smoother. I prefer it but it's something I have been use to driving STi's and this is nothing near that lag, but at least it doesn't jerk my neck shifting into the lower gear like it use to.

Hi Infantry - just wondering: Did the dealer replace your TCM physically, or update the software only? Also, was your TCM work done under the 3 Yr warrenty, or under the 5 yr power train warrenty?

As mentioned above, my 12 Ti (bought in June-11 - now at 44k km) is now in the shop for what appears to me to be TCM issues (I'm awaiting a diagnosis from the dealer).

This is what is on the service papers I got:

"advise last night the car lost power like trans was slipping allowing engine to rev, shut engine off, now no crank, towed in. Shifter is in park but indicator shows in D.

Electronic trans diag, u1013, replaced and programmed TCM, post road test

parts:

AE8Z-7Z369-E MODULE - TRANS

AE8Z-ZB498-A SEAL

So it looks like they replaced and programmed the TCM.

Also my vehicle was at 44k miles so I think it was covered under the powertrain warranty, or could have been under that specific extension that this thread talks about.
