Turned out not to be the TCM but TSB 15-0036. They replaced the Crank sensor and repaired the harness.

Hi everyone,
Not sure if I'm on the right forum or not, but I recently purchased a 2011 Ford Fiesta entry model privately and almost immediately started having transmission issues.
The car started shuddering when I accelerate at lights (a common issue by the sounds), then it started revving very high and showed difficulties changing in low gears when engine light appeared. When turning car on and off, problem would sometimes resolve itself. Then I lost reverse gear. I have taken the car to two repairers, the first said battery and ignition switch were faulty and replaced in order to test, but couldn't fix gear issue. I was referred to a transmission specialist who have had the car for the past 4 weeks and have told me that the computer needs to be replaced, then possibly the clutch after... car has only done 57,000km? I hope this is enough information for some direction as to what the real issue is, rather than a $2,500 guess by the mechanic. Being a young woman, I feel as though these mechanics are just trying to milk me! I appreciate any help.

Don't bother with anyone BUT a DEALER, and a well recommended one at that.

No-one else will have the computer & mechanical tools/info. necessary for this type transmission.

Thank you - I will be doing so, just wanted to ask to see if the mechanic was on the right track or not?

Not shifting right, particularly with a check engine warning, can be a TCM (transmission control module) issue. Better after restart is typical of that. Dealer NEEDS to see it with the warning if possible.

Shudder on shifting has a list of possibilities to read here, clutches/programming/seals are on the list.

Code(s) need a look, as clutch actuator or actuator linkage issues CAN also cause trouble.

DO need to check local info., and with Dealer, there are possible extended warranties and you may be covered under basic warranties as well. IDK the std. or the extensions for Australia. Here there's a couple LONG ones to cover portions of that separately plus some extensions.

Thank you so much for your help! One last question; there are lots of forums of Fords with similar issues which were fixed by replacing solanoids, is it possible this might be an issue for my Fiesta? (I'm trying to be hopeful as I've already paid $1000 for mechanics to merely look at the car!)

I have a question for anyone who knows.. If I put my car in sport mode should it shift by itself at all? Mine shifts by itself up till 5th, gear then I have to shift into 6th myself. once I manually shift it then I have to continue to do that.

I have a 2013 focus SE. I can put it in sport mode and then shift myself and it seems to work like I would expect. once I shift it myself then it requires me to continue to shift or it stays in that gear.. again what I would expect.

I am taking it in for the clutch pack issue.

If I remember right, that is deliberate, sport mode needs more pep, so it won't voluntarily go into overdrive 6th

please keep us updated on how things go in the weeks and months after the clutch pack issue

parts and service delays have been going on for a long time on the DCT transmission, I think its a good indicator how NOT small and limited this problem is.
