Exclamation

I've been considering buying a Focus, test drove a couple (3) and noticed the same issue in all the vehicles.
Has there been any diagnosis on what the problem is? If so, what is it? Has Ford found a consumer-acceptable resolution?
I'd hate to buy it and be plagued with drivetrain issues from the outset.

Wavsine has the best solution:

"I had the same problem but I loved my Focus so here is how I fixed it without getting rid of the entire car:

Open the hood and take the radiator cap off your DCT Focus and hold it in the air. Have a friend drive the old car out from under the radiator cap.

Have the dealer drive a shiny new Focus with 5 speed manual transmission under the radiator cap and screw it back down on the new car.

Problem solved."

Issue acceleration issue

I have the same issue with my 2012 focus. It sometimes is very jerky as you start going from a stop. Other times it's just fine. It almost feels like you are driving over rumble strips. Has anyone found a permanent fix?

Hi Caraelizab,

Swing by your dealership so they can check this out. Additionally, I'm happy to do what I can to help. To get started, send me a PM with your name, daytime phone number, mileage, VIN, and servicing dealership.

Crystal

my 2002 is doing what you described. i have no idea what it is. I changed the fuel filter and it was filthy. it ran fine for a few miles then it started back up again. ive been told it could be a clogged catalytic converter so im in the process of checking that out but im having issues getting the stupid head shield off, tight space.

Update

I ended up taking my car to the local ford dealer for i
My yearly inspection and to check out the acceleration issue. It sounds like this is an incredibly common issue and ford is well aware and has several fixes. My issue however is more serious and I was told not to drive my car. If I did and something happened it wouldn't be covered by warranty since it's been diagnosed. The big problem here is that the parts required to fix it are on back order for 27-30 days! Sounds like a big problem.
