Upgraded front door speakers

Just replaced the front speakers in my wifes car with Hertz units from the previous one.
Improvement is there, but it does highlight how bad the Sync 1 audio really is.
They do something weird to the sound that makes it lose highs....
Next step...change HU!
The 'dsp' btw is fundamentally flawed, as the tweeters are run off the 6.5" and thus given the same time delay....so close Ford, soooooo close.
As the wife likes a bit of bass I want to change the rear doors to just woofers, and filter them for just the low stuff....
Questions:
can I make 8" fit with rings?
Do small mono amps with high level in exist?
- is there a +12V in the doors.
Any HU advice?
-larger screen if possible, and maybe lose the tiny current screen.

I'll stop ramblin' now...

Year and trim level? (It makes a difference.) There are at least 3 different speaker setups that you can have stock.

If you're willing to fabricate, you can probably fit the 8" in the rear doors if that's what you want to do. Personally, I have a set of 6.5" midbass speakers that are pretty good down to about 35Hz or so, so there are probably easier options.

If you're going to go with an aftermarket deck, there is a dash kit that will allow a double-DIN HU in the dash, I believe that it is for the Sync1 4.3" screen model. There are several decent double-DIN solutions out there, depending on the features that you want. There are even some adapters for steering wheel controls that apparently work well. I don't know how/if if they handle things like chimes and so forth.

It actually seems easier to do this with the lower trim lines than the higher. I have the Sony 10 speaker setup, and for that... It seems like upgrading the head unit is extremely difficult.

Hi, thanks for taking time to respond!
It is a 2015 Titanium with Sync 1(Euro)
I was looking for a 6.5 that could go that low, but for that size of speaker to give a meaningful response (60Hz downwards) amplification seems a must.
Does Sync even have pre out?

You'll probably need line-out adapters for amplification.

I'm not so familiar with the Sync1 spec, and if there are any differences for the Euro version, I"m even more out of my depth. I have done a lot of audio work in older cars, and have looked up stuff for my car with the 10 speaker Sony audio. (Which I really wish weren't so annoying to upgrade.)

For myself, rather than being a fan of bass, I like full, clear sound, which happens to include bass. :)

You were asking about +12V into the doors. Depending on how much power you want to pull, there should be some places that you can pull it from. The power window switches should have +12V available to them for low power applications. It should be switched with main ignition. Nothing of substantial current is going to be available full-time, as this is a potential safety issue. I would not recommend putting anything too demanding in the doors.

Take a look in the "tech" section here, there are some good threads there on things like the dash install kit as well as amplifier installation.

No. You must splice in a LOC.

Do you happen to know if it’s possible to upgrade from the small screen stereo from sync 1 to the big touch screen Sony sync 3?

Couldn't tell you about all that. I have the sync system with the 4 inch screen in my 13 SE. The non Sony setup.

Last summer, I put a set of these in my car

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R16...l?tp=105&avf=Y

Just the ones for front. Back are probably fillers anyway. But with a stock radio they don't sound bad imo. I may not have like a lot of bass etc, but I feel like I hear more details in the music than I used to hear. That's my opinion anyway. As I recall, I just used them only in front, 1st time I'd ever installed speakers, but they weren't bad to do. I used the harnesses included. It does seem as though I had to modify the bracket from crutchfield slightly to fit, but it was easy enough for a beginner. I'm happy with them though for a stock stereo.

What I've read in the tech section suggests that it CAN be done, if you can get the "as built" data from a car with that as an option, and get all of the parts that it comprises.

My personal opinion there though is that it is likely not worth it. My car is a 2012,so I don't actually have Sync3, but I have the 8" touchscreen. (I have MyFordTouch, which appears to be slightly different.) I presume that sync3 is an upgrade from what I've got, but seems functionally similar. It might be somewhat better for integration to Android Auto or Apple Carplay, but I don't use it that way. (I suppose that I might if I had it though.)

It would all be factory, which would be nice, but for the money that you'd spend, I think that the aftermarket would offer better options, and probably a better interface, and cheaper to boot. The 4" screen with sync1 systems are much easier to replace, as they don't have their fingers in as much of the rest of the car's systems, and there are some decent options for interfacing to the factory controls out there.

Bit the bullet and got my wife a Pioneer 230DAB.
Shop made an error in sending me the fascia and cables for a pre- facelift car (that's what you get for buying a changeover year car...)
Options so far are mind boggling...not a 1 hour job!
Now looking for a small/custom/underseat sub to take care of the lows, not about volume, just added enjoyment.

I know when I've priced an aftermarket radio for my 2013 se, it was around 300-350.
