How are these vehicles not eligible for Lemon Law buybacks? Itís a legit question, considering customers have continued taking these cars in over & over again for clutch replacements & nothing gets fixed. Now fast forward to 2019 & Ford gets called out on social media & on the news for continuing to sell these DCTís knowing that the transmissions were faulty? Maybe someone knows the answer, but multiple repair attempts over the years & no permanent fix sounds like a Lemon to me?

According to IL's attorney general:

have a nonconformity that both substantially impairs the use , market value or safety of the vehicle and is not repairable by the dealer or manufacturer in at least four attempts for the same repair, or

be out of service for a total of 30 or more business days.

The Lemon Law DOES Cover:
New Cars (purchased or leased)
Light Trucks and vans under 8,000 pounds
Recreational vehicles (excluding trailers)
Vehicles in their first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first
Vehicles purchased in Illinois

The Lemon Law DOES NOT Cover:
Used Cars
Altered or modified vehicles
Motorcycles and boats

By the time 12K miles has passed, most of the DCT issues arise after.

Varies by state, but at this point the vast majority of MK3's are past the lemon coverage date. Ford knows that if they drag this on a bit longer, the problem mostly goes away.

Last Ford I'll Buy

Obviously this Transmission horror story has went on way longer than it should have.
In referencing the last offer Ford released, which is the extension of the transmission warranty to 100k, That's It, No More.
Lawsuits and reviews will drag this out until all the cars left on the road are past 100k or disposed of.
Forget it, "NOTHING" will benefit any owner going forward.
Ford is in the drivers seat now.
You're 100% correct which is why the 2013 Focus (albatross) I have now will be the last Ford I'll ever buy. I had given the brand some of my money in the past, 86 Ranger, 93 Ranger, 2000 Sporttrac, 05 Focus, 06 F150, 13 Focus and 13 Escape. There will be no more money given to Ford from this point forward.

I miss those old Rangers. I grew up with my Grandpa driving around in them. Reliable and easy to fix. We always had 4 cyl manuals and my GP was tough on them. We hauled loads of heavy office equipment we would buy form state auctions. He replaced those tranny's like most people replace brake pads :).

I had a basic 88 Ranger I4/5spd. Reliable and cheap/easy to repair.

Don't get me wrong, there's been a lot of improvement in engine tech in 30 years, giving us engines that are better in almost every way - they're lighter, faster, more efficient, and more powerful - and I appreciate those improvements. But...it doesn't get much simpler than those older Rangers, and there is something to be said for simple. I'd jump on one of I stumbled across one for sale at a reasonable price.

I think I could have kept mine running forever for very little money. Underpowered as hell, but the entire powertrain never gave me issues.

I had an '87 4WD 4-cyl 5-speed Ranger too. I abused it too with some heavy loads. Once I lent it to a friend who didn't know much about load capacity and she filled the bed almost to the brim with clay soil and the suspension had almost zero travel left and the tires looked like they were going to explode. That was one scary ride to limp it to the dump site but it recovered nicely. I did do a clutch job on it at one point. Not bad but I remember the pilot bearing being stuck and we had to cut it out.

This is the truth though. Ford will do nothing until every Mk3s are past 100k miles. Which by then they're worth jack s***. Most people would have had their cars traded in within three years too, at least from my metropolitan friends.

Lawsuits won't benefit anyone but the lawyers anyways. We all know the drill. As for how big companies don't care for customers, it is not just limited to Ford too:

The only way I see it is that we no longer make purchase on new first year model cars. Buy a car once they've been out for a year (or even two years) with no major issues. Heck I'd wait until refresh year. It is tempting to get the latest and the greatest, but in the world of more complicated designs which complicates accountability, why be the beta tester?
