2012 Focus Na Crankshaft Pulley Replacement

Anyone have any experience changing the crankshaft pulley on a 2012-whenever Na Focus? Somehow or another the gear on the back came detached from the pulley (At least from what I can see) and me and my buddy were going to replace it, but aren't sure if it would mess with the timing. Or if we're just able to replace it and not worry.
