Coolant Loss on 2016

Is coolant loss expected on these cars? 2016 with a 2.0L.

I now have 52K and it's just under the MIN. label of the tank.
I've filled it up to MAX once before, but don't remember how long ago.
Wondering if I should take it in to the dealer before the warranty is up. Thanks.

If it stops just under the MIN and holds there, yeah, that seems to be kind of common. Top it off, check weeks later and it's just under MIN. I stopped worrying about it.

Pull the lower cover off under the engine and look around, especially the passenger side of the engine. These cars are known to leak fluid from the water pump. My 2015 leaks from there, not a huge leak. But if I fill it to MAX like you did, it will leak down to just under MIN and stay there. Replacing the water pump is on my todo list this spring, as I am out of warranty on that.

Just under the MIN mark is where the pickup is that pulls coolant back into the cooling jacket when it cools down, so it will never go below that, even if there is a serious lack of coolant in the cooling jacket. Once the coolant has fallen to that level, it is sucking air into the cooling system, which is bad for many reasons.

Check when the engine is at operating temperature, and if it is not well above the MIN level at that time, you are definitely low on coolant.

I had a similar issue on my 13 & it was a faulty water pump.

Oh wow, thanks for telling me that! I had no idea... I'm looking into that today.

And... isn't that a huge design flaw? Or are all cars with coolant reservoirs like that and that is just how they are? It seems very misleading that the level would just stop at that point and not go any lower.

I did a quick check, before heading to work, at the water pump and it looks wet in that area. I'll take a closer look tonight when I get home and have the car at operating temp and running.

Thanks again. It does look like it's the wp.

Took it to the dealer and they are fixing the water pump leak and the valve cover gasket leak under warranty.

So the 2016's still had this problem...

Does anyone know if the new waterpumps come with a different gasket?
