2017 Focus SE, intermitant back up camera

My back up camera has started to work intermittently.

Any suggestions on how to start trouble shooting?

My first step will be to find the camera, and clean contacts, and remate the connector to the camera.

Thanks for help

Do you get a "Camera unavailable, contact dealership" message on your display?

Mine is doing this, intermittent failure though getting more and more consistent, so it's definitely not getting better.

The camera itself isn't too difficult to get to, I don't know if you have a hatch or a sedan, but I think the hatch would be more difficult, and it wasn't hard at all to get the trim piece off and get to the camera.

The other place to check will be the APIM where the connection goes to the control module. I still have to do this for mine. I'll try to get to it soon.

If your car is a 2017, shouldn't it still be under warranty?

This is my daughters car. I checked the User's Manual:

"NOTE: If the transmission is in reverse (R) and the luggage compartment is ajar, no rear view camera features are displayed"

She closed the rear hatch and its works.

Mine works intermittently too. It's just junk.

Sometimes it's the "camera unavailable..." message.
Sometimes it's just a distorted picture.
Sometimes just a black screen.
