Recall and other work

So I've made it to almost 84000 miles without much problem when my right rear door refused to latch shut. Checking around, here and elsewhere, I discovered this is a known problem with a recall for it so I contact the dealer yesterday to get the door fixed and any other recall performed while I'm there.

I drop the car off this morning and while there I went over the listed recalls and other actions with the service rep and when he asked me about the DCT transmission I said that I had the occassional shudder but it wasn't real bad and he said the tech would pull the codes and test drive. I then head off to a coffee shop for coffee and to kill some time.

A couple hours later I get a call but I don't recognize the number so I refuse it -- the tech said he'd text me if there was an issue, and a moment later the message about a voice mail pops up so I figure I'd better check it. It was the tech and when I called back he didn't answer so I decided to head back to the dealer just in case. On the way the phone rings again and this time I answer -- it was the tech and he told me the clutches need replacement and that it would take another day to complete the work. So, when I get back to the dealer they called me an Uber for a ride home -- my car should be ready noon tomorrow.

So, after nearly 84000 miles I'll be getting a new clutch pack and I didn't really have to beg for it. As I said I have had some shuddering but not real bad so I never felt the need to come in for a replacement, but with the other work it makes sense to get it replaced and be done with it -- I hope.

So, when I get the car back the following should be done:

1. Replace the door latches on the four side doors

2. Replace the clutch pack on the DCT

3. Fix/replace the "Canister purge valve"

4. Check/reprogram the APIM

I do hope they replace the door latches on all four door, but I won't hold my breath that they do that -- I would not be surprised if they fix only the bad one they bill Ford for the other three. Hopefully the DCT is improved and doesn't become a problem that I never really had before.

When I had it done they did all four. The door locking/unlocking sound is quieter now. The reprogram and purge valve work made the car run much better over. Once Tom retuned my car now runs like a new car. I was gonna dump it and get an F150 but I think I will save my money and wait a couple more years!

Oh one other thing regarding the latches. When my dealer fixed mine, plastic parts crumbled when they took it apart and they had to order additional pieces which too longer than expected. I was without my car for several days. I hope that does not happen to you.

You've heard back about the purge valve? My dealer still hasn't contacted me... Last they told me they were expecting for April and would mail me another letter.

I'm considering bringing mine in for a bit of shudder (and passenger complaints on the door letting in air), but I'm unsure if warranty would cover the door (2015 model, 50k km on it). They are charging me a fee to inspect it, so I'm concerned it wouldn't be covered.
I'm also tempted to do the drop-in filter + snorkel delete (since I'm sure my current air filter will need replacement very soon) and see how it is; people have said it kinda fixes the shudder.

I just got my car back after spending two days in the shop. They did the following:

1. Recall 16S30 -- door latch issue -- replaced all four mechanisms or at least they said they did
2. Recall 18S32 -- PCM software update
3. Recall 14M01B -- clutch shudder issue -- replaced clutch and input shaft seals

In addition they found a couple things to bill me for:

A. Reseal oil pan gasket -- $200
B. Replace rear main seal -- $175
C. Retainer - crankshaft oil -- $87.69
D. Sealant - silicone -- $36.95
E. Kit - element & gasket -- $5.00
F. Syn-blend oil - 5W20 -- $18.80

Total damage = $600.77

Well, I'm not happy about the additional stuff they invariably find but at least the car should have the major failure items addressed.
