Yes, or other problems with gas gaugse not accurate..it's a cheap fix, most people do get codes mentioned in the TSB before they get the more serious issues.

Shell regular must be some horrible fuel. As for now the check engine light is off but I'm using 93 octane. I'll see if the check engine light comes on again when I get a full tank of gas.

Get the DTC , they are still there even if the check engine is not lit.

Might not be even fuel related.

While it doesn't seem reasonable to many, the existing purge valves in the engine compartment have proven to be a real issue with fuel tank deformation. With a full fix running in the couple grand region out of warranty, catching it early is a high priority.

Evap canister valve has not shown a tendency to fail in a manner to cause this issue.

Bottom line - purge valve code or unusually small fuel fill means check it out right away!
So is the replacement part being recommended a PRIORITY modification necessary to prevent this from happening? This is the first I've heard of it. Or would it be recommended to wait for the code to pop up and quickly perform the modification with the listed part after that?

Might or might never happen... first original valve might be fine but then you replaced with a new and this one might give you trouble...

I'd says wait before starting to replace everything.

A lot of 2012 focus are still fine...including mine.

The point is NOT to wait if a CEL shows, as sykosis mentioned in another thread on this yesterday Ford tends to consider a deformed tank as a CUSTOMER failure to maintain the car, lack of timely response to the CEL.

Thing is... there is no new revision of that valve yet (checked with dealer)...

New one does not guarantee it will not fail sooner.

Exactly.

IDK of a guaranteed preventative yet so it's all based on response IF you have an issue.

My car never threw a CEL and after replacement of the valve I have tank, sending unit and pump damage. Will know to what extent when I get the new pump and sending unit in and drop the tank.

That has happened, first reports of this included nothing more than fuel gauge off as a warning.

Juicedz was asking about preventive Mods, don't know of anything that's a guarantee yet.
