By far my Focus is my favorite car (the other vehicle in my stable is a BMW, and I prefer the Focus), but I regularly think of selling it, taking the money & updating an '01 Explorer with 2015 equipment. And I only think about doing this because I wonder about the long-term health of my DCT package. The Mk3 could have been a truly great car, but the DCT keeps it from that status. And apparently, 4 years haven't got the problems solved. I would like to keep this car for 250K miles, and with the exception of the DCT I think it can, but the DCT makes wonder about that goal. Too bad - I think the MK3 could've been a world-class car.
I have always been an import fan, and a ford fan. in the 70's & 80's ford's sucked, I LOVED mustangs and had a few from 75-86 but always wanted the fuel efficient sporty imports. The new focus is a decent car but the auto tranny scares me to death..... My wifes Focus has one and that made me get a man 5sp. My car has been fine for it's 13k miles and the wifes 36k auto has been in the shop 3 times under 2 recall/TSB's and still I don't like the way it shifts/ takes off.
My old 08 GTI W/ DSG was a flawless tranny, Ford needs to copy!!!

Just hit 4 years this October and 60k miles on my 2012 SE. Was never a Ford fan, I was a die hard Chrysler owner. But when I sold my 2006 Dodge Magnum (was a money pit due to the Mercedes suspension parts), I was looking for small hatchback. I always buy American and Dodge just had the ugly boring Caliber and Chevy had no hatchback, so I tried Ford. Bought a 2011 Fiesta, but was a little too small and went to the Focus. So far it's been one of the most reliable cars I've owned. It's been a great car. Now if only Ford would bring over the wagon (Estate in Europe) version here.....

For guys in tristate area; how is the focus in the snow and geting up and down hills? are Snow tires a must-have? I am seriously considering buying a 2013 titanium tomorrow.

I had a 2012 Focus Titanium HB with the 17 inch wheels (i think) and the contipro contact tires. I drove in a lot of snow and it was very capable.

Currently a 2nd owner of a 2014 mk3 with the DCT. Current mileage is 41,000 miles and just recently took it to ford and it was diagnosed and updated. Through warranty they're installing a new clutch in about 9 weeks(back order). My Ford shudders regularly even though i drive it properly. Hopefully a new clutch will fix this....but does this mean ill need a new clutch every 40,000 miles?

My 2015 is great. Minus the windshield that Ford seems to be dragging their feet on having the engineer they promised to send. I had to go to BBB as 3 dealers in my area were no help. Long story. The windshield has a "ghosting" effect. A bright light looks like 3, day or night. Throughout the whole winshield. So if your Focus is doing the same, please bring the issue up to Ford Customer Service. There was another 2015 Focus on the lot with the same issue.

Well my overall experience outside of the DCT >< has been great

Only issues in 32k miles
approx 19k had to replace tires due to hitting something in the road
21k, 24k and 27k clutch replacement
Rear ended approx 22k -- the other car was destroyed, my car -- less than $1500 worth of damage -- bumper, shock absorption and a few lens covers
32.1k had to blow out the windshield washer since it got caked up with gunk in NY on a road trip

In fact, I'm trading it today for a 16 focus that we had to search high and low for with a manual transmission and the options that I wanted...

I figure if the worst I had to deal with was the "automatic" if I erase that then all I had was tire replacements (road hazard -- could happen to anyone) and the windshield washer sprayer I've not done bad at all in 2 years and over 32k miles....

Hopefully the new one is just as trustworthy
