yup all review so far agree that new focus lost in handling department, and that is quite worrying some.

^ i agree. but most cars now are going to electronic steering, and it saddens me, and this is the reason.

It's not necessarily bad when it's done right. It's the amount of assist that's programmed into the computer which can make a huge difference. They intentionally numb down the base models for comfort. But I'll be more than willing to bet that the ST trim will have minimal assist applied.

They did the same thing between the Golf and GTI. The base Golf is a little looser for comfort, but the GTI has very tight steering. The computer values are tweaked to decrease the level of assist on the sport model. Honestly you'll have trouble even knowing that it's electronically controlled.

If you love tinkering with a car's computer system you'll discover that it's possible to change the values of the steering assist values yourself. Some manufacturers try real hard to lock people out from doing so though. The numerical value was grayed out for me when I checked it under the diagnostic tool, so I couldn't do it myself. I pathetically begged my dealership (and even offered money under the table) to tighten the steering a bit... but they wouldn't budge due to liability reasons. So yeah, it's technically possible.
