Definitely wait a few months after they appear in showrooms. Dealerships are going to mark the price up just like they did with the Fiesta. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.

Agreed. I know they offer excellent value since they'll be more upscale than the previous versions, BUT it's borderline exceeding my target price point (sub-$20k) for what I want (SE sedan, PowerShift and Sport Package). Much respect to Ford, but I'm having doubts whether it'll fit my personal needs.

The Fiesta would've otherwise been a perfect match if they had only offered a 3-door trim and useable back seats. Very fun car to drive, but it falls just a little shy when it comes to utility.

Currently leaning towards a Forte Koup SX. It's practically $3k less versus the Focus SE I want. Of course in a perfect world if I was given the option to choose between the Focus and Koup at identical prices... obviously I'd pick the Focus. But something called "money" and "responsibility" kicks in when you get older, and life starts sucking more.

mmmoose Yeah I'm buying something new in a year but I'm all over the place now with choices. Now I have a wife and later this year a kid so that plays into the decision making process a lot. Growing up does suck lol.

I'm torn between hatches like the Focus, Elantra touring, Impreza, Mazda 3, Forte. Then there are crossovers like the Rogue, Venza, Tucson, Sportage, Outback. Or there is the mini van car Mazda 5 and the upcoming Cmax or a sedan like the Fusion or Sonata. I think the mini van car and family sedans are at the bottom of my list but I still want to check them out.

Well kids take a while to grow, and unless you normally keep cars for 13+ years (or you're planning to have A LOT of kids) you can still stick to something small and sporty. I personally wouldn't select a CUV/SUV for that reason, especially with gas prices creeping closer to 4 bucks a gallon. A lot of the choices you listed are good ones though, and yes it's getting tougher with all the competition. Congrats on the kid, btw!

Thanks that's a good point, kids are small but all the other crap takes up space. Only planning one kid anyhow and the wife drives a Pathfinder so space isn't an issue when needed. It seems like the mini SUV get about the same MPG as my Zetec so that's not really a concern.

I'm glad a few here have pre ordered the 2012 Focus and I'm really curious to see what they think about it.

hummm.....well, for me since my car is going to be paid off in the next month or so, i will save back and work on my current car, i would like a new focus, preferably the st. but i am going to sit back and see what happens with this current incarnation of the focus, plus with the st release date being a good year from now. i am sure i will accumulate a nice size down payment. and it will also give me a good idea what the aftermarket will provide for these cars, what bugs will creep up, and give me a chance to test drive the titanium model before the st comes out and also it will give me a chance to see what some on here that will buy one will do with the cars. now however i am going to keep my eyes open elsewhere too
