Alarm goes off when unlocking the door using remote

Hey there so I've got an interesting one and I hope you guys can help out. I'm going to start this off by stating I strongly dislike Fords and this is my wife's car (I drive an Audi) so if I am pessimistic, this is why, but she inherited the car so you can't hate free too much.

So my car has had this thing for a year or so now and during this time sometimes when she would unlock the car (always with the remote never the key) the alarm would beep a couple times as it does when you shake it a shitload, like the warning beeps. Now though, when she unlocks the car it goes full on retard and sets itself off when she unlocks it with the remote. If she had better credit I would've already tossed the turd but she doesn't so I'm stuck fixing it, any suggestions on where to start? I'm think it could be the remote modules sensitivity is turned up too high causeing it to go off but in the same thought I think that that won't make a difference anyways

The irony is everything broke on the thing right at 100k, window regulator, this, her ignition, something else.

Like I said, I don't like the car, so please forgive me. Any help would be appreciated

ignitions on the 08 are not common to break, and the car should only beep once when it beeps multiple times it means its sensing a door not fully locked and its a warning.

aftermarket or factory security system

also when you say this do you mean your audi or the focus??
"So my car has had this thing for a year or so now and during this time sometimes when she would unlock the car"

2000-2008 Ford Focus's have issues with the latch assemblies of the cars getting gummed up by the junk grease and her door is going into a half latched state and the car detects it the multiple beeps) and it goes into bypass which the intrusion disables the latch sensors... IE one of the door latch assemblies is faulting

as for disliking ford thats fine theres plenty here that hate audi's..
as mentioned many times before there is no flawless manufacturer out there they all have issues... i have a 2002 the only major issue with it would be the brake line went other then that its been absolutely flawless then you get to my 2006 which is an absolute heap at the moment..

Okay so I meant her car when I said my car, changed pronouns in the middle

When it beeps more than once is when she is unlocking it though, not when she's locking it

95% sure it's Ford, and I'm pretty sure the module says Ford on it but not 100% sure, any idea what a factory one is supposed to look like?

From what I've seen that's not true and it's rather common, although technically it isn't the ignition I guess and it's the little piece that initiates the starter as seen in this thread http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum#/.../322624?page=1

And others

Also, just to clarify, the alarm is going off when she UNLOCKS the car, not when locking it

Fod had issues with the ignition cylinder ive replaced several.. its usually the ignition cylinders that have a hammered finish with offset key and not the one with the chrome ring.... they stopped using the hammered finish ignition barrels/cylinders in 2003-2004. there is known issues with the ignition switch on the other side of the column but again those are rare but they do happen

the link unfortunately is dead it goes to the forums mainpage

i am trying to reproduce your issue with one of my cars or my test set ive never heard of the horn alerting on unlock... only when lock is used

older focuses have a module that is actually labeled anti theft immobilizer but that was nixed in 2005 and its now called a GEM (Generic Electronic Module)

Ah damn, ya it says I can't post links so maybe thats why haha.

ya its not the barrel, its the switch on the other side of the column, its what the barrel ends up turning and is what actually starts the car

yep the horn will honk once when locked, then when she unlocks it itll either honk multiple times (from other cars I've owned the other ones did this to let you know how many attempts there were to get into the car but I don't think its the same thing, but maybe) or will just literally set of the alarm and she has to go in and start the car then press the remote button a bunch of times.

I'll take a look either tonight or tomorrow and get you a picture of the module that I believe is the alarm and would probably tell you if its OEM or aftermarket

The remote fob says FoMoCo on it though and it doesn't make sense to put in an aftermarket alarm but use the OEM remote fob??

ehh ive seen ford use aftermarket rebranded ones with really odd remotes that they slap a sticker on top.. my old Mercury Cougar had one it was an unbranded black box but the part number on the board inside came back to a viper but this is a REALLY OLD car..

yeah the ignition switch does go but its not as frequent as alot of other parts.. i may have to try something in the morning as its 9pm here and i cant be setting off my alarms at this time.. my neighbors put up with my racket working on cars daily but i stop working around 7..

im going to see if the ignition is playing a role in this.. the focus sounds fine it doesn't sound like anything is actually defective something sounds like its just not sitting right or parking right and the alarm module is detecting it... but again in my years at ford i have never seen a ford beep on unlock i have seen some imports but never a focus..

Focus alarms dont usually stop when set off i had to be woken up because my Jag wouldnt shut up for over an hour in the morning after the neighbors kid beaned his head off the mirror on his bike (shared driveway) (My Jag was built by Ford and uses the same modules and ALOT of parts from the focus)

i do know the jag DOES beep twice to say an attempt was made but it was found out that the alarm wasnt going off it was recording an "attempt" but not being set off it came down to one of its hoods latches fully saying it was locked it was like a intermittent it would see a fluctuation but the circuit was not fully broken.. there is a possibility there is what we call a glued latch assembly somewhere (Ford uses a grease in the door latches that turns into glue stick consistency and this is a VERY common issue as you can see in the tech section with misbehaving locks and the central locking system either going crazy or not working as the actuator thats inside the latch assembly starts to stick and either doesn't say the lock worked, or fails to unlock or fails to lock or in a recant case on my jag and my 06 caued both cars to go into a protective state where it disabled the power to alot of the car (battery saver) my Jag turned out to be a sticky driver side bonnet latch, the SAP turned out to be a sticky trunk latch which caused both cars security systems to act weird but it was a simple fix (just needed to find out exactly what caused it

Actual alarm is either an accessory sold by Ford or a strictly aftermarket unit as Mynx mentions.

The stock system is ONLY an anti-theft and includes beeps for locking (only with double click lock on my older version).

mmhm alot of the focuses have anti theft immobilizers.. ive toyed with my cars a few times never set off the alarm but the car did blink weird..

and i just looked my jag actually has an upgraded alarm system hence it was acting weird its made by ford but its also to control my windows sunroof etc etc..

the 06 is basic its just an immobilizer i just jimmied the door and tried starting it with my 2002 focus key and all it did was blink the lock icon rapidly and no horn.

it did BLINK twice when i unlocked it with the fob (No Horn) and locked normally with a blink and single horn pulse

my 06 has 2 stage locks like my 02 you can actually change that all the way up to 08 or 09 i believe just need to read the owners manual on the sequence on how to switch between them

the only car i lock is my Jag the 2 focus's i leave open its cheaper to replace a stock headunit then replace a busted lock or busted window xD plus the area im in has alot of cops and no ones stupid enough to break into cars

Alarm goes off when unlocking the door using remote

This is definitely some good info so I will have to do some digging, hers is two stage unlock as well

To me at first the system did look aftermarket, the way the module is it's just hanging and has what seems almost like a valet button, so I'm not sure if it ever had an auto starter and maybe when the person traded it in they didn't bring the fobs with it? I could've sworn the module said fomoco as well but I will have to look, sorry for such a late response back I've been doing the timing belt on the Audi for a couple days and it's just a hell of a job

Here's a video demonstration by her though of what it does

I haven't had a chance to get the numbers/pictures from the module but will do that asap

Here is the video of her unlocking it and the alarm goes off

https://youtu.be/YKgYl2AMEi0

She also said that even starting it doesn't always shut off the alarm and she has to press the unlock button while the car is running sometimes

Also in regards to her remote fobs the FoMoCo is molded into the plastic, it is not a sticker, and both keys have a remote fob, exact same one on both
