LED 3rd Brake Light and Cruise

ALL,

I know that I have to install a load resistor to get my cruise to work again after installing LED 194s in the 3rd brake light. Installed a 50 ohm resistor and the cruise still does not work. Do I need higher resistance? I do not like the idea of going back to incandescent bulbs. Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

v/r,

Not sure what everyone else has an issue with. I have used the following LED's on mine.

Yorkim T10 194 LED Bulbs 6500K Non Polarity 6th Generation for Car Interior Lights, LED Plate Light, Turn Signal Lights and Corner Lights - W5W 168 2825 T10 194 Wedge LED Bulb, Pack of 10 - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MAG6RMM..._RrbIDbKVGJRKX

A 2001 ZX3 and a 2004 SVT. Installed these bilbs Nad nothing else and have never had an issue with cruise control working.

LED 3rd Brake Light and Cruise

Magus2727,

These are the ones I got. They are polarity sensitive.

12V T10 LED Bulb,194 LED Bulb, 168 LED Bulb, 2825 W5W LED Bulbs, Super Bright 6000K White 10SMD 5730 Chipset 250LM LED Bulb for Car Interior Dome Map Door Courtesy License Plate Lights

Specification: T10 LED Bulb with 10smd 5730 chipset, 250 Lumens, 360 degree beam angle, 6000k Xenon white. Size: 1.03L*0.45W*0.45H inch, Socket width: 0.35, Voltage: 12V, Power: 3W

I just need to know if 50 ohms is enough resistance for a circuit that used to have 5 incandescent bulbs int it. Thanks for the information.

v/r,

Wonder if the issues is with the polarity and the cruise control...

For load well 12^2/50 is only 2.88 watts. so....

Voltage = I (current) x R (resistance); Power = I x V so, power also = (V^2)/R

T10 incondecent ligts are 5 watts each. 5 x 5 = 25 watts. you are now running 3 watt led's so 5x3 =15 you need 10 watts in a resistor.

10=12^2/R so R needs to be 14.4 ohms. or a combination of resitors to make that.

So I would say try spending the few dollars and get the bulbs i recomended and not worry about any silly resistors.

LED 3rd Brake Light and Cruise

Magus2727,

Ordered the bulbs from Amazon. Will know Thursday evening if this fixes the problem with cruise. Wish me luck.

Wishing you luck. I did not have any issues with cruise control after using those bulbs in both my 2001 ZX3 or my 2004 SVT. So unless I have picked the sweet spots for it to work it should have no issues... Or you have other problems? Not sure, but good luck!

LED 3rd Brake Light and Cruise

Magus2727,

No joy with the no cruise situation. Got the new bulbs and installed them. Checked the circuit, good lights. Road test and cruise is still missing. What next?

If you go back to standard bulbs does it work? Did something else brake?

Also there is a sensor under the brake pedal is that connected and working? I have had that fall off a few times and it will cause the CC to not work.
