I bought a 2002 SPI for my daughter for college in 2004.
My son then used it for years and then I did for a few years as
my commuter car. Gave it to one of my son's friends with 185,000
miles on it. Still driving well.
The dropped valve seat is the main problem for this engine.
Replace head with the improved version and it is a dependable
engine. Other nagging problems were the ignition switch can bind
up making it impossible to turn key. Inexpensive fix. Door switches
and window regulators wore out, not difficult to fix.

I’m at 206,000 on my 01 zx3, runs pretty good. In the middle of a “restoration” on her. Previous children had not been nice. Next up is a new front driver axle, poly inserts for torque mount, new exhaust (the muffler is rattly), and I might, just maybe, splurge on some kicker 6x8’s and a better deck.

not a good picture but from the hood and the head light it looks to be a 00-004 front face.
