Check the PCV hose on the Zetec. They are known to soften up and collapse. https://www.ebay.com/p/OEM-Ford-Genu...0640630&chn=ps

Terry I replaced that a few years back. The fuel was really dirty coming out. Hoping that fixed it. Will see in a few days

The Olds was a 96 I bought in 2004. So most likely an electric fuel pump. But still, changing a fuel pump is a 1 day job and maybe a $100 part. And copper nickel tubing is the shit, I love using that stuff.

@Kyle

The fuel came out dark? Was that when you were changing the fuel filter?

I made the mistake of running old gas in my focus. It wound up fouling my engine and I'm still trying to fix it. I wound up draining the gas tank with the key on key off method. My gas was the color of dark urine. Bad stuff.

Anyways, best of luck and please keep us posted!

That's not good dude. My Focus was sitting for 1 1/2 years. When I drained the gas tank a few days ago it was the color of dark urine.

When I refilled the tank with fresh gas from Irving it was crystal clear like water.

I'm hoping that was my issue. I'll see over the next few weeks if it stalls again or not.

It is normal to have utter black fluid come out of the filters now as the filter is a water separator too now due to ethanol bringing it in. I simply carefully clean the filters out and throw them right back on the cars now to save $10 each time and the cars run fine.

Any fuel left open to atmosphere for 24 hours is now 'old fuel' if it has ethanol in it, fuel here will show water in it in 10 minutes left outside on a humid day in the summer. If your car has an evap system leak that will be any and all fuel you put in the car, the tanks breathes as it cools and heats up night and day and the cause of lots of trouble now.

Going back to the OP...............'When leaving the parking lot I went to turn onto the road and the car died. Just like I shut the key off.'

Consider which way the car turned before it died.....if to the RIGHT then likely the pump is a bad one and what they do and even more if the fuel level was less than 1/2 tank when it happened. What the recall did.

The interior module filter stops up and only a pump module change fixes that. Or, you can remove pump to simply clean the filter out with WATER, as again the trash is ethanol based, and put back together to run the pump again for years if it hasn't burned up yet from you forcing it to go too long starved of fuel. Fuel is the coolant for pump and none makes them burn up the impellers.

@ AMC

That is so weird, I never would have pieced it together.

My car had 3/8 tank, was going uphill and I turned right.

Would this happen immediately? Would it outright die or go weak? How can I find out more about this fuel pump phenomenon? IDK as we have an easy way to measure fuel pressure on Foci.
