2007 Ford Focus Se firewall liner

There is a fire wall liner in the engin bay of my 2007 Ford Focus se with a 2.0 in it and it’s starting to come off I was woundering what it’s for and if it’s ok to take it off because it looks bad I saw a couple people take it off and did not affect anything but I just want to make sure before I take it off thanks!

It’s there to insulate the firewall from the heat coming off the exhaust manifold/catalytic converter. Removal is ok but will lead to higher temperatures radiating through the firewall. Doesn’t sound bad until your A/C dies, it’s summer time, and your stuck in traffic. Feet will get toasty and stuff behind the firewall will be exposed to the extra heat as well which could lead to other failures in the electronics and/or HVAC.

For noise reduction as well, the zetecs have one with the exhaust in the front.

The cats have a heatshield built into them that kills much of the heat.
