Battery tray/cover swap

Anyone used a Zetec battery tray/cover in a Duratec Focus? At a glance, I though the battery covers were identical and simply relocated. The dimensions are almost exactly the same, but the cutout hole in the top is not in the same position. Never understood this cutout because it never lines up with the battery label, but in any case...

The reason I ask is because I ordered a set of polished SS dress up items from the UK - a fuse box cover with RS logo, under-hood sill/rail/wing plates, and a battery cover. The battery cover fits but doesn't look right with the cutouts not matching up. Looks like I have to either get a Zetec battery cover to fit on the Duratec battery/tray, or cut my duratec battery cover so it looks better. I don't want to ditch the battery cover since all these pieces go really well together.

Looking at the tray bases, a swap of the bases does not seem possible. Looking at the covers, a cover swap seems possible but not perfect. Hoping someone with both a Zetec and a Duratec can try it out and LMK how it goes.

The cutout aligned with the hydrometer (charge indicator) that was built-in to the OEM battery.

I doubt the Zetec cover will fit in a Duratec. The Zetec tray houses a group size 40R battery and the Duratec tray houses a 96R, which is slightly shorter in length.

I have an extra Zetec cover that I'll send you for the price of shipping if you're interested. It is scratched on the top, but your plate should cover that up.

Sounds good! LMK what the cost to ship is, ZIP is 48220.

Good to know about the OEM battery and the charge indicator - one mystery solved!

Thank for the size info too. If those are the right sizes, it looks like the Zetec battery is bigger. The hight would probably be an issue though since my strut bar BARELY clears the battery and fuse boxes as it is. Barely enough room for the few mm needed to slide the stainless cover in there.

Zetec - 40R - 10.9 x 6.9 x 6.9
Duratec - 96R - 9.6 x 6.2 x 6.9

Yeah, usually if people switch battery sizes, it's from 40R to the 96R battery. I doubt it would work in most trays going the other way, due to the larger dimensions of the 40R.

I totally forgot about my offer! Sorry... But it looks like you have it well "covered". It turned out pretty good, IMO.

No worries. Thanks, I like them. The kit doesnt match the massive cover as well as id like, but still adds a nice touch under the hood.
