Help identifying this sensor (hanging loose) - 2.0 Zetec

Hi there,

Was under my wife's MK1 focus and I spied a gold coloured (brass maybe?) Threaded thing wedged under the inlet piping (but hanging loose from two wires).

It has two wires, covered in electrical tape. One connected to the battery (via an inline fuse) and the other going into the loom near the radiator.

What could it be? Air temp sensor? Some kind of redundant coolant sensor?

Kind regards,

Steve

holy hell o.o ive never seen one of those.. give me about 10-15 minutes and let me check the zetecs i have sitting on the floor of my garage.. i can tell you this.. that fuse is NOT normal it shouldn't be there .. and nothing should be technically wired direct from the battery like that..

looking at 3 of my zetecs i see nothing that looks like that attached to the block the only cylindrical connectors which are usually Grey and Green are the O2 sensors.. i pulled 2 of my rads out of storage and i see nothing like that connected to them..

let me dig up the keys to my 2002 wagon and poke around it and see what i find but again in all the focus's i've owned and worked on I've never seen anything like that attached to any of them

unless thats something new added to the 2003 my 2x 2002's have nothing of the sort... if you can see exactly where its tieing into and what else is connected to that same area of the loom it may help locate what its supposed to be and why that's been hacked in.

i worked for Ford and i have all the TSB paperwork and updates and never seen a single mention of this modification in anything.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the effort.

I will check it's getting power / reading a sensible amount of ohms and re-attach it in a suitable location. Maybe even put some heat shrink on the taped bits.

Thanks again,

Steve

Thanks, didn't look like there was any obvious mounting spot in the radiator within reach of the wiring
