Duratec intake manifold

Lately my car (2007 2.3) has been making a fairly loud ticking sound, I'm pretty sure it's the swirl flaps in the intake manifold. I am looking for advice on what would be the best route to take

From what I understand I could pull my intake off and just remove the flaps but leave the rod in there and everything plugged in. Would the car still run properly or would I need a tune?

I was thinking if I need to tune for that anyways I'd probably be better off just upgrading it. I only know of the cosworth/knockoff and weapon r, any others to consider?

Long shot here but seeing as 2.0's are a dime a dozen in junkyards would a 2.0 intake work on the 2.3 or would that just be counter productive?

I think if you remove the flaps but keep everything else intact you shouldn't need a tune.

If you can spend the money, the knockoff intake and a Tune would be good

It'll run fine with the flaps removed, but you may notice a bit less power in the low end.

I checked for intakes in my local junkyard, and every single one had the same rusted bolts that I dealt with on mine. It just wasn't worth fighting with. And odds are it was either a front-end crash that damaged the intake, or it has the same ticking flaps you have.

Buy the PCV valve and hose to replace while you have the intake off, though. It's a cinch to access with it out and nearly impossible with it on.

You really wouldn't swap a 20 i/m as thats a single runner vs the 23's dual runner length one. Notice the two solenoids on the 23 vs the 20, the other runs the imtv, which changes where the airflow is directed to by rpm, speed, ect. You'll see the little activator linkage behind the t/b that runs the imrc (tumble flaps). I run mine w/ the linkage disconnected, remove the t/b & remove the 3 screws that hold the activator to the i/m & then carefully disconnect the little white linkage arm & leave it hang there. Runs great for me. If your swapping out i/m's, a great one to run would be a 23 Escape i/m as they don't have the imrc....Why IDK, they just don't for some reason, & like said above, great time to replace the pcv hose of which I used a Dorman over the Motorcraft one.
