The one thing I can tell you it's expensive very expensive compared to the prior refrigerant. If you have a leak it may be worth getting fixed due to the cost of the refrigerant. I would recommend ordering it online. Only one company it's actually able to make the stuff Honeywell, and you will need a different charge fitting as well.

Uh-oh, I was hoping Ford would never get around to using that stuff.

One of the caveats of it is that there is no install equipment for it for the public at all and intended to be done by trained techs ONLY to prevent the typical leakage into atmosphere the millions of users did with 134. The whole idea of it was to bring 100% control of all a/c repair work back to the dealers ALONE. The feds wanted it that way for emissions reasons and of course Detroit losing much of its' dealer work to backyard screwups went right along with the idea. The refrigerant is not supposed to be sold to anyone who does not have a valid a/c service license (or wasn't supposed to be anyway, things may have changed) to be able to buy it.

Big bucks, you need deep pockets....................the first thing I looked for under the hood of the last new car I bought was the sticker showing what refrigerant the car used. Trying to avoid that stuff.

I had a link from when GM first began using it to explain further, but the link no longer is valid. Look up GM cars to find out how much fun they've had with it, been in those a couple years now.

As you see by the pictures yes you can buy the stuff. You can also buy a charge hose.

I read somewhere that people with BMWs running the 1234 refrigerant opted to evacuate the system and replace with R134 and were successful doing so. So, it could work with the Focuses running on 1234yf although I haven't heard of anyone trying it yet. I'd be inclined to if the issue was no longer covered under warranty. To do this, you would have to outfit a regular set of gauges with 1234yf adapters. Evacuate the system as usual and charge with R134. Of course you would want to address the source of the leak and make sure the system could hold a vacuum as you would do for any AC repair.

I'm guessing you have a leak? You're already out of warranty?

The 1234 compressor oil needs to be changed as it is supposed to be incompatible with R134. Same as R134 subbed for R12, works for a while until things slowly tear up.
