2011 Petrol Focus Issues with alternator/electrics

Not sure if this is correct forum for the below but hoping for some help regarding my Focus.
I am looking to see if anyone has had similar problems with their 2011 Petrol 1.6LX model, specifically with the following problems.

Possible alternator issue.
The car broke down twice while on holiday where it appeared the alternator was not charging the battery correctly. Scarily it turned the power assisted steering off while travelling at speed and as soon as the car was turned off, that was it dead. The first time it happened, I was lucky to have someone with jump leads help out. We thought the battery was the issue and it started fine the next day. Unfortunately the same thing happened and I required recovery to a local garage who diagnosed it as an alternator problem. The alternator and belt got replaced and the car now starts and that issue has not repeated itself.

However, lights on the dash are now randomly flicking on and off (handbrake, ABS and Power Assist), at night this affects the dash light lighting and the car lights dimming on and off. At times it also switches the speedometer and other dials to zero and back up again. The car has also started to cut out while sitting in first with the clutch in, it literally just suddenly cuts out. All of these issues are intermittent. They happen at acceleration, easing off accelerator, changing gearů..total randomly. I have had it in the garage again after the initial repair of the alternator and they did a diagnostic check which found various errors which had to be reset but unfortunately the problems have not disappeared. Their opinion is that it may be a fault with the new alternator but in truth they cannot say so I was hoping there maybe someone on here who have had the same problems who could help?

Many thanks

Jamie

ALWAYS now question a new alt if the issues began with it. New alts now are so hit or miss as to quality it cannot be overstated. Some people go through 2 or 3 now to get a good one.

I used to sell them, we failed some 20% of them right out of the boxes. Had to pretest all new ones the problem was so bad.
