Shifter / Transmission issue

Is it normal for the shifter to start going into the reverse “gate” without pulling up on the lockout? It doesn’t actually allow me to go into reverse, but it allows the shifter to go about 1/2” into the reverse detent. I notice it the most when shifting from 3rd to 2nd. I’ll pull it out of 3rd, push the shifter all the way to the left then try to pull down into 2nd. When I push the shifter to the left it will get caught in the “gate” and I have to pull it back to the right slightly and then down to get it into 2nd. I feel like this isn’t normal, right? I’ve only started to notice it a few weeks ago when driving spiritedly.

I’ve got a Boomba short throw and ronin solid cable ends. I’ve removed and rebuilt/re-greased my shifter and performed a cable adjustment and the issue is still there. Anything I’m overlooking or is this an internal tranny issue?
