You can take like big pliers and actually overtighten it a bit past hand only and doesn't hurt a thing unless you cannot control yourself. How I do mine now.

I don't change caps either, I simply change the gasket after making one for like $1. The caps go for $10-$12.

Fix the driver first, then fixing the car becomes so much easier..........

The ones I got(two caps) were brand new but not original, some brand Vernet or so, both had different mechanism inside from the stock cap, and both were obviously not holding pressure as much as they should. Changing the circular rubber seal seems a sensible action
