2002 Transmission Problem

I just purchased a 2002 ZX5/automatic with 155,000 miles. The guy I got it from said he was driving it and it was stuck in 4th gear. He changed all the solenoids. When he dropped the pan he said the fluid was clean and there were no shavings in it. After all that, the car will go in reverse but when put in drive, 1, and 2 it just rolls in neutral. You can still give it gas but it doesn’t do anything but roll. When put it into drive you can feel and hear it go into gear though. Any suggestions?

I really wish you a lot of luck on your transmission.
My 2002 wagon currently has 140K on it and just installed its 4th transmission at 137K.
I also have noticed a trend watching local classified ads on same year Focus. A lot of them have had the transmission replaced, or rebuilt between 80K-120K.
Also if you start searching for a new transmission, the gearing is different between the SOHC, and the DOHC Zetec transmissions.

Once somebody unlearned goes deep into ATX repair then all kinds of things could be wrong there.

The end covers wear severely to let various things go wrong, and why used trannies are such a crapshoot, they will likely be just as bad or worse.
