Another transmission thread

Hey all. Long time no see. I originally posted this note in the "general chat" section before I found the "tech" section.

I am sure that there are a zillion threads on this, but my search is not finding anything on point. Human error, I am sure.

We bought a new 2014 SE auto last year (September, 2014 build, IIRC). Very happy with it. I did my homework, I knew that there were many complaints on the DCT being rough and chattery. Seemed fine at first...kind of like a "shift kit" tranny.

Now at 20K miles, it seems to me it is getting rougher. Chattery/lurchy sometimes through turns....sometimes it seems like it is vibrating on some turns. Took it in to the dealer few months ago...they ran a diagnostic and declared all to be normal. Are all the autos that rough?

Plenty of warranty left but I don't want to keep bringing it in to be told that all is normal.

Everything else seems fine. Aside from the trannies, there is little not to like on these little cars.....

We are likely picking up a new 2016 SE on Tuesday (getting another good deal....$15K OTD (tax, tags, etc) on a 20,485 MSRP)...I will compare it before we buy....I think the DCT is basically the same between 2014 and 2016? We are keeping the 2014 too.

Thanks in advance.

MkIII section & MkIII problems area are where you'll find the most info (and debate).

Even when all is "right" the automated manual is different, when there are problems it can be anything from annoying to useless. Little similarity to a typical automatic, and some of the driving "tricks" that work with a torque converter type are problematic for this type (slow movement "creeping" in particular).

Good & bad in every model year, fewer bad ones overall as time went on.

Thanks. found some significant discussion in Mk3. Yeah....sounds like my issue is "common" though not necessarily "normal." Will wait till closer to end of warranty and bring it in again and will ask about TSB's, etc.

cheers.
