Focus thermostat change question

Hello, I couldn't find this searching but I was wonder do you need to drain your coolant prior to swapping thermostat and housing? This is for Zetec motor Svt

Yep especially if you are reusing it as much of it will come out when you pull that part.

In general on any vehicle you drain the coolant at least below the level of thermostat if you don't want make a mess. This car doesn't hold much, so I drain the entire system.

The drain is on the bottom drivers side of the rad, there is a nipple next to it that you can put a 3/8" ID tube on for tidy drainage.

Thanks, also searching it looks like people recommend going with motorcraft gold coolant. My car looks to have prestone green/yellow right now
