I have a rattle...

I'm going to take the car to the dealership for this because the car is so new but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what it might be.

After driving the car for a while when I idle with my foot off the clutch the car makes a rattling/ticking noise in the engine bay. It is coming from the passenger side. When I press the clutch the noise stops. When I'm in gear and driving the noise is not there it's only when I sit idle. Also when I first start the car it does not make this noise and it doesn't happen until I have driven it a few miles.

Noisy clutch throwout bearing fits the description. The noise stops when the clutch is depressed because the bearing comes under load.

Thank your. Any idea why would it be making so much noise with less than 4000 miles on it. I don't drive the car hard.

No real idea. I don't think it's really affected by how hard you drive as it's only in operation momentarily between shifts. It's usually just excessive bearing slop.
And I've seen and heard of noisy ones lasting for the life of the car; irritating perhaps but not deterimental to engine/drivetrain longevity.

Well thanks for that info. I'm not big on a rattling car so I'll be taking it to the dealer. I just hope I don't get it repaired bring it home and 2 months later it's rattling again haha.

Hi stuff1138,

Do you know when you'll be heading in? I want to look into some options. Please send me a PM with your VIN, mileage, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location.

Meagan

Nah, mandroid has an SPI with the IB5 trans.

Most common on the SVT, JUST had a poster in this section with an MTX75 asking about the noise.

Not too common for them by comparison.

Right here:http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=500537 It was within a few threads of yours until I posted this reply.

Sailor, is it more common in the mtx or the ib5? I should probably check the escort forums. The ib5 is not a very common transmission in the focus.
