Exclamation 2012 Focus OIL OIL EVERYWHERE!!!!!

So I went to pop in a K&n drop-in air filter in my 4 day old focus when lo and behold the entire engine bay was covered in hot oil. There was a concentrated blast on the hood cover above the engine and most of the rest of the engine was coated. I thought I heard someone complaining of the same thing not too long ago and I'm starting to wonder if this issue is widespread. This should be covered under the warranty so I'm not worried in that sense. But its disheartening to know that a car I bought to replace an unreliable car itself seems to be lemon scented. Thoughts?

Well, it wouldn't show up magically. You should start up the engine, open the hood and see where it is shooting from. You should see it spray out from something, that oil is under a bit of pressure.

It's probably coming from around the base of one of the 2 round VCT solenoids under the hood ... see the pic below, I circled them in red. The dealer will have to install a new valve cover gasket kit, which comes with the new seals and o-rings needed to fix it.

Yeah, that looks like the VCT solenoid o-rings/seals gave out ... especially where the hood liner is getting sprayed.

Wow, they gave out at 300 miles? Oh well, is it safe to drive 10 miles or so back to the dealer to have it fixed?

Top off your oil and then take it over there...

It's an easy fix... someone may have ripped a gasket/ring... must have been a "Monday" car.

Your car is protesting the K/N. I don't like non-paper filters.. more air goes through them... yep.. so does more dust. and the oil will goof an MAF sensor.
