Sounds like the switch for the trunk has failed or become misplaced. Not sure if you have a plunger switch or a mercury type switch. Find the switch, test it and replace if necessary. The other possibility is a short in the wiring loom leading from the car body to the hatch. Check inside the rubber bellows for damaged wiring.

Yep, you'll need an electrical tester to verify the switch is bad- or the wiring is not bad before replacing the switch only to discover you still have the same problem.

If your switch is anything like mine- then you'll have to remove the hatch trim and get to the latch inside the door. That's where my switch is- unfortunately. At least you know which switch it is, and aren't trying to figure out which door switch is causing the problem.

well I went out this morning and started it and it was fine came home tonight got somethin out my trunk and its doing it again my trunk light is on as we speak. If I dont get this fixed will it hurt anything with the door ajar dash light on or kill my battery with that trunk light being on overnight? or is this more of an annoyance factor than a real problem?
