I am a bit confused by this, if I bought a replacement OEM accumulator for a 2000, why wouldn't the original hose from the same 2000 model work? I don't need the hose itself bigger, it's that the metal ring you described does not fit inside this connection as it should (from what I can tell it should). My accumulator came with it as well as 3 green o-rings for the other fitting, which went on no problem... I would hate to buy a $100 hose... I just don't see why that would have to be replaced.

I don't know all the details, but when I went to buy the suction hose rockauto told me "Discharge and Suction Line; Before 1/03, Requires New Accumulator". I didn't want to replace the accumulator, but went ahead and bought one. They looked exactly the same until I compared the connection for the suction line, the internal pipe diameter was larger on the new one.

Perhaps the "crush washer" is intended for those that don't buy both, to try to seal it since the o-ring wouldn't work because of the different sizes.

From my understanding they changed the design after 02, so maybe rockauto doesn't carry the old style hose and "forced me to replace the accumulator too, as I don't see this mentioned on the ford website. Did you get the oem motorcraft hose?

Heres what I had, the "crush washer" was in a little baggie and I assumed that it went on the line to accumulator, but the o ring was already installed there, and the ford diagram appears to only show an o ring, So I didn't use use the crush washer.

I did this last year and I dont remember getting that crush washer.

I didnt use one and my ac works fine.

I did have to get a new suction/discharge hose due to the new accumulator fitting.

Screw me it appears the new hose is needed... lame they don't still make the original style accumulator... for it to only be a fraction of a millimeter different size makes my brain hurt... cheapest place for this hose?

Noob

I know this thread is pretty old, but I'm just getting into DIY on my 01 SE and the same thing happened to my ac hose assembly. Mine has been like this for over a year though. Would it still be ok to just replace the hose and accumulator or would I also have to replace the compressor or anything else?

Compressor could still be OK, only way to be sure is to give it a try.

DEFINITELY wouldn't go replacing it on the assumption it's bad.

Check the A/C stickie at the top for more info. before doing the repair, orfice tube & other O-rings in the system would be good to replace while it's discharged.
