Question 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - Diagnostic Trouble Code 2279

Hi guys,

I have a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI - I've only had it for 4 months (and is not covered by the warranty - it was late on its last major service) , it has 45k on the clock and about a week ago the engine warning light came on - it was due a service anyway so I got all the filters changed (oil, air, pollen and fuel) and an oil change and my mechanic recommended using Forte Advanced Diesel Treatment which was mixed with a 3/4 tank of diesel.

The engine warning light then went off.

About 2 days ago the multi function warning light came on, so I took it to Ford and paid for them to scan for errors and it brought up error code P2279 - Air Intake System Leak.

Since yesterday the car is not going beyond 30mph and has very little power - it has to go up any incline in first gear. I've obviously stopped driving it, but wondered if you guys had any ideas what could be wrong with it. I'm reluctant to take it directly to Ford as it is out of warranty so could cost me a small fortune. I've heard the turbo could be gone or at worst the engine is gone. Has anyone seen this error code before or know what may cause an Air Intake System Leak? A friend suggested that there is not enough air coming in to the engine - something about 14.1 parts of air combining with 1 part of fuel for the combustion to be right. Also the engine gets really hot after just a couple of mins of driving.

Thanks in advance.
