Ford EcoSport?

A friend of mine recently had one as a rental & itís an interesting looking little SUV. IMO, it looks odd but the prices are very reasonable, it sits up higher vs. a Focus & it gets very good MPGs.

What are your thoughts on the EcoSport? Iím seeing 2018 Titanium AWD EcoSportís for around 18k. SE FWD versions were around 16k used. Seems reasonable?

I wanted to hold my opinions on them untill i test drive one.
When i worked at the dealer they were just coming in and after looking at them side by side with the escape i wasnt impressed at the msrp then.
Basically an escape without the cargo capacity for the higher trim levels at similar price.
If your seeing titainiums at 18k that tells me the prices have come down some.
Hopefully not a bust on the showroom floor like the ranger clearly is.

I am always on the lookout for my next car, even though I'm rarely in a hurry to have to replace whatever I own at the time. The Ecosport caught my attention when it first appeared but I agree with you that "it looks odd" and with Ductape91 that the Escape seems like a better choice -- if I were to buy another Ford (wavering right now).

I would really want to avoid anything with a CVT or DCT, and it gets harder every year to find anything with a manual trans. I also tend to avoid turbochargers, which narrows the choices even further. That leaves the Ecosport still on the list, too.

I one thing that caught my attention about the Ecosport was that, while based on the Fiesta, it can be bought with a 2.0L NA engine (!). That made me wonder whether a 2.0L would fit in a regular Fiesta?

The description on the Ford Build & Price site says "The available 2.0L Ti-VCT (GDI) engine is turbocharged with direct injection" but that's a typo if Car & Driver has it right. (Someone who didn't know better probably copy-pasted that from the description of the 1.0L engine, where it is true. The 2.0 turbo isn't even sold in the Escape any more.)

CORRECTION: The 2.0 turbo isn't even sold in the Escape any more EXCEPT in the highest trim level (Titanium).

Please don't buy one it's the worst rated car in that class. It got it's ass ripped in every magazine. Hyundai kona is much better in all aspects, and it's cheaper.
I don't care about brand loyalty so this idea my next vehicle having to be a Ford is not something I consider. I simply look at what's out there without the label making the decision for me. It actually amazes me no matter what type of vehicle a manufacturer makes somebody will buy it.
Both motor trend, and car and driver put the Hyundai Kona first, and the Ford ecosport last. Basically called it a joke they couldn't even take it seriously because Ford didn't give two damns about it.
0 to 60 basically 10 seconds no thanks. Regardless of what engine you get you have two choices both are pitifully slow.

Yea I agree & honestly I donít see the EcoSport as being a big seller for Ford. The Escape & Edge both look better & are still both small enough for daily driving etc. The EcoSport & Fiesta are kinda similar meaning both are seemingly just smaller versions of the Escape & Focus, if that makes any sense. The Edge is obviously a little wider but still much smaller vs an Explorer.

Apologies for the long post but tl;dr it's only an average crossover.

I was given an EcoSport SE from Ford as a rental while my 2010 Focus is in the shop for a brake job. I took it for a drive to a local twisty road just for fun besides the normal commuting drives.

The acceleration is rather pitiful and I have to push the car to 3500 RPMs just to get it going from full stop, which makes me think this has the 1.0L EcoBoost engine. I pretty much used "Sports" mode and just manually shifted the torque-converter box to get the most out of it. I can hear as much wind noise as my first car which is the boxy-looking 2005 Honda CR-V. The EcoSport sways on the highway even at around 75 mph (~120 kph). Handling is average for a subcompact crossover but it is no hot hatchback or sports sedan.

The interior is average. The panel gaps seems to be the same as my Focus which is kind of unacceptable by this day and age. I could imagine the amount of rattles that could develop. The car does have good infotainment system but I hardly used it (not that I really cared I'll be honest). I'm at 5' 9" with my front seat at the driver's position the legroom for the rear passengers are very limited - and I like my driver's position upright and closer to the steering wheel. The rear cargo area looks similar in size to a Focus hatchback, though I haven't tested it since I never figured out how to open the rear hatch as I couldn't find any latch

This car is an average crossover and that's it. From what I know of it is actually built for the Indian market first and foremost. I have driver a Toyota C-HR and that is a way better subcompact crossover (I still prefer the new stick-shift Corolla). Honda's HR-V seems to be a better crossover too.

Absolutely correct the car was brought over from India then sold to us Americans as a new vehicle/platform.

its ugly, small, and barely gets better mileage than the Escape. (~25mpg on Fuelly vs 23MPG)
the 2012+ Focus get average 29mpg, and i wager has better cargo capacity and comfort.

Yea I agree, it really is goofy looking lol. I was looking at them again last night & although the Titanium trim does have a nicer exterior appearance, itís still a very odd looking vehicle & thereís no chance Iíd be seen driving one lol. The Escape & Edge look much nicer.
