I grew up in New Orleans, where floods are part of life. It was well known that some would buy flood cars, clean them up, maybe change the carpet and then dump them in other states. The poor buyer would find out months later when the electronics rotted away.

Just left a Nissan site where they are all pissed at me because I called them out for being DAs when they ran through puddles deep enough to blast the rubber seals out from around the steering column where it goes through the firewall. Then the water gushes all over the lower legs.

Utterly hilarious, they are claiming they will get another brand of car due to it not being a submarine and 100% watertight. Then I told them subs weren't 100% watertight either and they let me have it.

And these people are paying for my SSI............how they manage that while trying to destroy their cars every time it rains I'll never know.

Unbelievable, ppl are still driving around barriers & deep water, totally clueless. Must be these ppl need to be smacked & woke up. Possibly best to take a baseball bat to they're window so they can at least get out & wake them up.

Why "unbelievable"? There will always be plenty of people who don't know better, until one day they do. (Speaking from personal experience here.)

What is it that you would have expected to change that since the last time we saw people driving into deep water? It's not likely that the people doing it now are the same ones who did it before, but rather a whole new group.

I would have per post #26 expected the numbers of people waterlogging their cars to get bigger, and it seems to have happened.

Why should we excuse the 'new' group? They had the same access to facts and reality as the rest of us. Maybe to lessen our own fault when we did it? I do not accept that.

Whether the group is all new or not has nothing to do with the personal choices made there, the name of the game is to get through situations WITHOUT wrecking the car or insert whatever risk there. I can maybe see the first guy as not knowing how deep the water is, but when you have clear indicators there like water levels on the cars already stranded and then you go ahead to do the exact same, well, that is dumb-ss quotient plain and simple. The news shows us all day long but we want to stay stupid.

If people simply sucked up 5 minutes worth of geometry to think of the street in terms of angles and how they drop at intersections and the like then simply reading the curb angle into the water vs. distance the water covers can pretty much tell you if it is shallow or too deep but no, we don't want to give it any thought at all. It hurts too much.

Anytime you approach risk for the first time, to you it is new, that is a poor reason to use in place of simply thinking for a few seconds to come up with 'I'm not doing that regardless of what they are doing'.

Unless of course you live on lemmingworld...........and I WOULD bet that some of the ones doing it have done it before.
