LED Accent Lights

Decided to add some LED accent lights. The area I'm in can sometimes require light, but headlights are too bright, and the marker lights are too dark. Adding these to a dedicated switch that can be activated with the car on/off solves that problem. Yeah I know my car is dusty, weather just hasn't permitted a good detailing in a while. Now that that's out of the way, here it is:

Items:
LED Accent lights from Walmart- $9.88
Spool of 18g Autozone Wire- 5.99
Autozone rocker switch: 3.99
Wiring connectors I had laying around: free
Total cost just under $20 with 45min install time.

Slotted the switch into the fuse panel for easy access later.

Left enough extra wire so panel can be easily removed to access the fuses.

Ran cabling through the side of the door (again, easy access for later)

Pulled the cables through the fender panel, ran through a hole that I found in the lip under the hood.

Both positive wires running directly to the battery, with the negatives running to the default ground indicated in the pictures (wire cleanup and sleeving to come later)

Attached the lights to the inside of the marker housings.

Higher amperage than the rated draw of the lights but lower than the max amperage of the wire gauge by length.

Yup, Fire hazard!

IMO, I would use the firewall instead of having power wires in a critical place ... dangerously close to a door hinge... (short if kinked/cutted there)

Currently looking into an in-line fuse (which was in my original plan, just don't have it yet). Everytime I've tried to run through the firewall, murphies law has kicked in for me. I will say when I first ran wires there, I was apprehensive and eyeballed them for a couple months. After having them there for the last 4 years, I hvan't had an issue, there is plenty of room. Also, the wires are stiff enough that it doesn't flex around.

$7 mod for trunk release button on 2009 Focus

This is really budget, but I was really annoyed that my 2009 Focus that I just bought used didn't have a trunk release button in the car.

So i bought an extra key fob from amazon for $7:
(can't post links yet, so search 2009 Focus key fob from Keyless Option)

programmed it (using the car manual instead of the amazon seller instructions), and taped it to the car with duct tape. :)

hope it helps someone out there!

Just did my latest one, found a ZX5 at the yard in decent shape and pulled the dash cluster out to put in my '04 SE. Cost? $10. I'm pretty darn pleased with it!
Wiring harness was different, but I was able to pull the face and swap it.
