Update

After going all around town in between class, I decided to order the spray paint from Automotive Touchup. Pray to God it works, which I know it will.

On the plus side, my ABS plastic sheet came in! I'm stoked about this because I'll at least have one thing to look forward to this weekend. For a 1/8th thickness, it's very sturdy.

More to update on the spoiler later on, as for now, the diffuser fins will keep me going.

Plans For the Rally Bean Video

Hey guys, sos you know I recently got my ABS plastic sheet in and it is ready for me to start on that project, which I will on Monday since it is my day off!
Second, my paint order will be here by WEDNESDAY THANK GOD. With that being said, I'll spend the later half of next week prepping and cleaning the spoiler and sending it. I have confirmed that the grey is PRIMED so that's one less thing I have to worry about....but can anyone else double confirm that? There's a picture in a post above that shows the grey.

Finally, here's a 2019 Plans video that I just uploaded! And it talks about the diffuser fins a bit more in detail but you guys already knew that.

Thanks! Look forward to an update post regarding the fins template.

Starting the Diffuser Fins for the SE!

I was able to get a good majority of work done today on this holiday!

The first thing I had to overcome was finding the angle of the stock rear valence. I didn't have any putty or clay, I had airheads though...so that's just as good? I took the airheads, molded them to the valence and was able to get a decent idea of the angle.

From there, I was able to take some cardstock that I had and sketch out the angle along with the rest of the template. The first one was good but off by a few hairs, but the second one was a bit better. In the photos of the actual template against the valence, the first one is the first template and the second one shows how it fits a bit better.

Then I made sure the template was good and I proceeded to sketch the outline on the ABS plastic sheet.

Solid day of work, photos are attached for aide. I am still debating making this template available for free download so that other SE's can do this. Let me know!

Rear Diffuser Install Update

Big update for you guys in regards to the rear diffuser fins for the stock focus SE rear valence.

So over the course of two days I went from 1 template to 6 different ones and then completely disregarding them for a new one that actually worked. In the following photos you'll see the progression of the templates in terms of size and differences in the angle.

I could not for the life of me figure out why the curved version (v1.0) did not work anymore. I thought I was missing something (which I was) but kept trying to make the curved pieces fit. After about two hours and two more variations (v2.0-v5.0) I FINALLY CONNECTED THE DOTS. I ditched the curve and went straight for the slant (v6.0) It fit perfectly. However, when I went to mock them up, they looked stupid long and quite odd.

At this point I called it quits on Friday and reached out to the Instagram community for advice. Everyone agreed that they needed to be cut so that's what I did. I cut them down about 3 inches and they look a lot better and less ridiculous.

The weather is supposed to be nice this coming weekend so I will install them accordingly. I have six total fins and I've been debating if I should make the "blue prints" available online as a downloadable PDF file for you other SE owners out there.

Rear Diffuser and Spoiler Update and More News

Hey guys!

Sorry for going off the map for a bit, I apologize greatly. I ended up finishing the spoiler and the diffuser and oh my LORD the rear end of the car is looking complete (for v1.0).

The video can be found here:

Moving forward now, the next steps I want to take are suspension, spacers and eventually wheels (later this year because $$). I am also currently looking into changing up the front grill area again. As much as I love the blacked out fangs to give it a more ST look, I want to try and remove the grill inserts and see what possibilities lay ahead. I have thought about creating/fabricating a bash bar or crash bar that, when the grill inserts are removed, would pop through a bit.

Has anyone else thought about this? Possibly, and if so, please tell me your thoughts! I will have to save the removal of the front bumper for later on when I have garage space at my parent's house.

Oh! One last note, anyone want to link me to the Ecoboost Throtlebody that fits on the SE model? :)

Thanks!

Feb. 21 Update - Grill, hood struts, spacers

Hey guys!

Brief update since I actually just placed an order for a new part. I ordered a honeycomb grille insert to replace my current, horizontal one! I'm super stoked on this because I know it help give the bean an even greater face lift. It comes "unshaved" so before I install it I will shave it down.

Next thing, I plan on getting either hood struts by Steeda or perhaps a rear sway bar. I also plan on getting spacers (I know, don't get triggered). Until I'm able to get proper wheels and all that.

Finally, I want to address something that came up while I was on Instagram last night: don't be a jerk or talk bad about them. Not that hard to be nice, but apparently it is for some people. I get that i don't own an ST but I don't care? My car, my build.

Honeycomb Grill Install

Hey guys! This past weekend has been a huge challenge but an awesome success! I installed the honeycomb grill but added a little flare to it. Usually the honeycomb grill comes with only half of the hexagons "see through" but I didn't really like that look so I decided to take it upon myself to make all of the hexagons see through so that way it looks better.

1.) First thing I did was remove the bumper. There's a short YT video on how to remove it so I did that to make it easier to remove the inserts but also to learn and get comfortable with removing it.

2.) After removing and setting down the bumper, I started to remove the inserts. These suckers were HARD as heck to remove because of all the dirt build up and whatnot, but I was able to remove them after using a smoothing tool (like for spackle).

3.) Once removed, I set that whole bumper aside and moved to focus on the honeycomb inserts. I put the side piece triangles in because I didn't want to mess with them, as my main focus was on the middle.

4.) So onto actually removing and clearing out the honeycomb. I used an oscillating tool with the saw attachment to cut the pieces out. The tool is designed to vibrate side to side to cut, and being super small, it helped get the cleanest cut possible. After a few hours of that, I went back in and sanded down the edges, removed any imperfections and got it as clean as possible.

5.) After doing hours of cleaning and sanding to make it perfect or as close as possible, I got it prepped for paint as well as the bumper. On the front bumper, there is a backing piece that is grey like the base coat and would have looked odd if I had left it. So I chose to paint that part too.

6.) I painted the grill and backing piece with Krylon 2-in-1 gloss black finish.

7.) Snapped the grill into place, put the bumper back on and was set! HOWEVER before you put the bumper on, you have to remove the two triangular plastic pieces that are on the crash bar because the bumper won't fit with the new grill unless you do this!!

I was super happy with going through with this grill, as I have had my eye on it for a long time and wanted to put a different twist on it myself.

March 21st Update - New parts!

It's been a few weeks since I have updated you guys but in that time I've definitely come to the conclusion that I want as much power as possible out of the bean. That, and drivability. With that being said and my birthday around the corner, I have ordered hood struts (more looks and function than the previous) and a Steeda rear sway bar. I am super stoked to get the sway bar on there and I'm glad I went with Steeda.

On another note, a friend of mine on here informed me of tuning options. He mentioned that the SCT X3 would fit just fine for the car and costs way less. My only problem is that I have no clue as to whether or not I can get updates for the car such as the 63 mm throttle body one, headers, etc. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!
